In italy we have more than 200 dialect. If you travel than 20 km you ll find someone that has a different lexicon or pronunciation. If you travel more than 50 or 100 km you wont be able to understand what people say to you. For this reason we use italian, dialect of florence, as our common language. Of course dialects are richer in variety and grammar because are more lively and they don't have to follow any rules. Our dialect came from ancient greek (and in this case they are really distant to italian standard) or theu can from latin. In these cases they should be comprehensible for those who speak italian. So I ll reward you if you will be able to translate in italian a simple phrase from my dialect (latin roots)...osci ne chedamu qquai e crai sciamu dhrai.
