In an online English lesson, I had to answer the question "What do you think influences a person's parenting style?"

I said, "Children get influenced by their parents' behaviors.

Children inherit their practices from them.

For example, when I was a child, I saw my parents giving their seats to eldery in the train, so I have done the same thing.

This will be passed on from generation to generation."

However, my tutor told me my answer didn't match the question.

Then, I asked her to give me an example answer.

She said, "My parenting style is half and half from my mon and dad. My mother had corporal punishment to me when I had a bad grad, which really scared me, but my father never used it.

Now I try not to use corporal punishment, but only do it when my children do really a bad thing."

I almost understood what the question meant, but no 100%.

I have difficulties getting a picture the situation because I don't have children.

Does anyone explain the question?
