In early days, due the lack of education and underdevelopment, many Taiwanese people were extremely superstitious.

When a person came down with illness, he/she might turn to a pastor in the temple rather than a doctor.

The pastor would perform an exorcism on him/her, and wrote down spells on a yellow slip.

Then the pastor burnt the slip and put it in the water as the medical potion to cure the patient.

Perhaps you'd feel this "medical potion" was ludicrous, but as of now, some old people still believe it works.
