In Japan, we have a long vacation called Golden Week (GW) around the beginning of May every year. Apparently, we have 10 consecutive holidays on average this year. The Japanese is still often regarded as industrious, but in fact, Japan has relatively more holidays than other countries, and this GW is one of the longest vacations.

Recently I saw an article about GW. It was about a survey of how the respondents feel about GW. Surprisingly, it seems that 40 percent of them answered that they were unhappy to have GW. I wonder why they react that way, but at the same time, I kind of understand why they feel that way. That’s why I’m going to talk about the reasons this time.

Firstly, I want to mention about external factors. In GW, many companies have to struggle with adjusting their schedule to apply to it. Also, a lot of service is supposed to stop the operation during GW. Furthermore, for ordinary people who don’t live irregularly, GW is a terrible event when many places are crowded with numerous people who have a similar life pattern. I think that’s why there are a certain amount of people who feel stressed by GW.
