I would like to fill you on how to swear properly in Russian. More precisely, this entry is about nuances of the usage of a common-Slavic swearing “курва”. As far as I know, using that word in public is wildly inappropriate in all Slavic languages except Russian. Its literal meaning refers to the word “prostitute” or something to that extent. However, “курва” lost the first meaning and became less rude during the course of Russian history. In Russian as it is at present, it is appropriate to treat an unruly kid with that word. It can also be modified towards a male kid as “курвец”. In the last case, it sounds even softer than the initial word.
