The video ad I showed you guys in my previous post is a good example of this word. The gap (difference) between the appearance or what you feel at the first sight and the actual personality of someone attracts you very much.

前回の投稿の動画に出ていたギャルも一例ですが、人は「ギャップ」に弱いですよね。

We have a katakana word "ギャップ" but the word originally is ずれ, 食い違い, 落差 or 隔たり in Japanese.

「ギャップ」は本来の日本語で言うなら、「ずれ、食い違い、落差、隔たり」のことです。

When you have found something quite different from what you had thought it would be, you get shocked and are intrigued by it, and then, fall in love with the thing or the person.

自分の予想していたものと違うものに触れると、驚いて、そして興味を惹かれ、その物 (人)が好きになるのです。

I've been watching "She's Gotta Have It" from season 1. It's a Netflix drama, that was originally a 1986-movie written, edited and directed by Spike Lee. There's a guy in the drama whose name is Mars, which is one of the main characters. He is kind of a goofy guy, who is not particularly good looking, has no money and no charisma or anything.

「She's Gotta Have It」というネットフリックスのドラマをシーズン1からずっと観ています。元は1986年の映画で、スパイク・リーが脚本を書き、監督もしました。ドラマの中の主要な登場人物の一人にマーズという名前の青年がいます。彼は、特にハンサムでもなく、お金もないし、カリスマ性があるわけでもなく、なんというか「おちゃらけキャラ」です。

You'll know who he is in this video.
こんな人です。

He had not been my most favorite character until I heard him singing in the episode 6 of season 2.

シーズン2のエピソード6で、歌っているのを見るまでは、特に好きなキャラクターではありませんでした。

ここの歌詞が好き

Oh, the troubles in my life won't bring me down
Oh, the struggles in my life, they teach me how
How I'm perfectly imperfect
and when it hurts I just remember there's a purpose
so I'll cry today, smile tomorrow
cry today, smile tomorrow

It's unfair! I'm Japanese. How could I know he is actually a famous actor/singer who won a Grammy Award by the dual roles of John Laurens and Phillip Hamilton in the Broadway musical Hamilton?

ずるい!日本人なんだから、彼がグラミー賞とった俳優/歌手だなんて知るか!

You (He?) got me! I'm completely fell in love with him.

やられた。完全に好きになってしまった…
