Ethnic tastes in pop music

If you find out the essence of world music in pop music, or the fusion of pop music and world music, just post here :D
Pop music in this case includes not only pop/rock but also other modern western music, such as R&B, hip hop, house etc.

Hi, thank you for this topic!
All the tracks you posted are very good, especially I like that tracks by Sergio Mendes.
It is much fun to me♪

This is Nightmares On Wax. I only have one album from them though, I like their music.
This is a track from the album I bought, but it seems a different version from the one from the album. I don't know the detail...

Is Santana OK in this topic? I am sorry if I'm off the topic...

Cool! You really like African percussions! I liked both of them! Especially Santana's one is very passionate. I often hear Santana's early works are very good, yet I have not heard them well. I have to check them out.
Thank you very much for sharing those!

This is a track called "Japan" by a dubstep artist called Plastician aka Plasticman. He is british and this sound of the strings is obviously not from Japan, but maybe from China.

It is very funny and interesting how people overseas think what Japan is like.

This one from Aphex Twin also reminds me of Chinese strings.

This is genuine Japanese sound, "koto".

This track samples from a Japanese "enka". I wonder what song is sampled.

Ha ha... I think the first one sounds like Chinese music, too. It's beautiful. The second one is very artistic. Why do they break the record player at last? It is very effective. The third one is cute♪ As you said, it has a taste of Japan. It's fun^^ The last one... yes, the melody is certainly which from Japanese enka lol. I don't understand which song, either.
Thank you very much, each songs are very fun! (笑)

Not sure this one is suitable in this topic though, Steve Winwood uses latin percussion such as congas in his music. This is cover song. The original one is by Timmy Thomas.

I like Joe Strummer. This song has also latin flavor, and it's used in a very romantic sean in this movie. Have you watched it?

Thank you very much for posting those two video! I have never heard Joe Strummer's solo before. I have never seen the movie before as well.
You really like clash. I like Clash more than Sex pistols too. That very song goes well with this season very much.
That Steve Winwood's song is also groovy! I liked it!

Triste Janero is an American soft pop band, greatly influenced by Brazilian music.

Hi! Yes, I like Joe Strummer. I like his voice very much^^

Triste Janero sounds comfortable and gentle. I like it. It's like that Brazilian music and California dreamin' by the Mamas and the Papas combined. Don't you think so?

I looooove pop music and I could keep someone up for hours with a list of pop songs but I'll just post this.

This one I heard from my mom. It was one of her favorite songs back in the day.

You're absolutely right. I like Mamas and Papas, too. Actually I had a kind of aversion to them when I started listening to soft pop, and had never listened to them. But one day I discovered their best album for a reasonable price at Tower Records, and it was really good.

Thank you for letting us know your favourite song. It's a really brisk song, and best for the summer :)
