Let's Keep This Group Alive!

Hey there! I'm just starting to learn dutch and came upon this site then upon this group. Saw the last post was December 18th 2008. I think this would be an awesome group to keep going for people wanting to learn dutch! I know I would love to make some friends to help study and learn!
Well off to go study my flash cards! Hope to see this group come alive soon!

Yeah I hope this group still has committed members because I feel I've scoured the internet looking for online, interactive, ways to learn and practice dutch and this seems to be my only viable option so far. Get back to me.
Regards from Canada.

Similarly here, I've just stumbled across Lang-8 and joined to see what it's like. I'll commit if others will!

English translation:

I suppose Dutch is a hard language to learn from scratch. Because it's not a widely spoken language I assume there isn't much information available. Also, Dutch grammar can be confusing. Dutch people often screw up grammar rules themselves!

When I discovered this website because I want to learn Japanese, I was surprised to see quite some people wanting to learn Dutch. I didn't really expect there to be any interest in it. Anyway, I think it's a brave attempt! Just say the word if I can help with anything.

I don't know how active this group is going to be, but I just wanted to inform you all about a rather active Dutch learning community that I am also a member of. At dutchgrammar.com you can read everything you want to know about the grammar of the Dutch language and ask questions or get corrections on written Dutch at the forum.
Enjoy learning our beautiful language!

Yeah, I frequent that site. It offers a very systematic lesson plan. Another site that offers a lot of vocabulary is http://mylanguages.org/learn_dutch.php
along with this site
http://www.verbix.com/languages/dutch.shtml which is great for conjugating any dutch verb.

Thanks for the tips, folks. I've posted some homework from my class - I'm going to try to do this more regularly (it's just about finding the discipline!).

http://www.dutch.ac.uk/beginners.dutch.grammar/index.php is also a great website with - even better - exercises that can be self corrected.

Hey guys, I once made a list of free internet resources for Dutch which I posted here: http://www.fluentin3months.com/forum/resources-2/dutch-resources/

(I'm Hekje.)

I'm sure some of these are already known to you, but maybe some will be helpful.

Here is also a thread containing information about audio-based courses:

Also. there's a very good software. Babbel Dutch Version. It providers learners with a large number of words. and every chapter has different theme and different topics so it could be helpful. You can download it on you smart phone, ipad!~ ;)

Hi folks, I've just started learning Dutch! Thanks for the links you've provided. I also use http://www.memrise.com/ for vocab building.

One question though. I noticed zij means both "she" and "they". What's the history behind this? Just curious.

Thanks :)
