Would you buy cheap supermarket milk in Australia where two of their biggest supermarkets have dropped the price of the milk of their home brand? My answer is NO. In reality, it seems very attracting while we are in the supermarkets. However, there are three reasons as to why we should not do that.

First of all, lowing milk prices causes much damage to farmers. They cannot get reasonable benefits for their efforts from supermarkets. Not only can some of them lose their jobs but the number of children who want to be a farmer will be slashed.

Your English is quite good. I disagree with you on the issue a little bit though. First of all, the big supermarkets have said they will help shoulder the loss, second of all, refusing to buy milk on this basis will hurt farmers even more. What are you gonna do? Demand and/or buy only expensive milk? I consume milk, I always have and always will. A low price on a 2 litre bottle, despite the effect it will have on farmers is not going to stop me buying it...that would be ridiculous.

Also, if you do choose to buy more expensive brand name milk over the home brand substitutes, don't assume the difference in price is gonna go to the farmers...it's going to the companies that package and market the milk in that way. The milk is all the same...that's why only a schmuck would buy brand name stuff in the first place.

Yes, what you are driving at is also right, I believe.
In fact, it is natural to buy chepare one because we consume them a lot...

This is really diffiult, isn't it?

Yes, it is a complex situation and in general I too don't particularly approve of the stranglehold Coles and Woolworths have over the industry...it does lessen competition and only hurts the consumer. Perhaps a situation where there were far more smaller supermarkets competing (like in Japan) would be better? Difficult to say, because of course the Australian market is very different...
