I am thinking about color today.
I am familiar with color engineering, so I always check color in a daily life.
I know blue (ao) in Japanese means green color.
That remains from old Japanese color expression.
Some English learners tend to mistake to translate "a green light(signal)" into "blue light(signal)".
And I'll figure out how many words and phrases I know.
A blue banboo ->A beautiful green banboo
Blue vegitable ->Green vegitable
A blue copper ->A rusty bronze (looks green)
He is blue. ->He is (as) green (as grass).
Blue two years(two years means young fish) ->Greenhorn
etc.
Get it?

そうですか。昔は青いがなっかたということですか?
Thank you for your correction.
There are some story why green is sometimes called blue.
One of reason is there were only five colors, red, yellow, blue, black, and white (赤、黄、青、黒、白) in old days.
So there are only five adjectives which express color adding noun with "i" such as 赤い、黄色い、青い、黒い、白い. (黄色い is exeption.) Other colors have to add "iro+no" with noun such as 緑色の、橙色の、水色の.
That's why blue express blue and green. (Blue sky is OK.)
Other examples are
Blue caterpillar (Ao mushi),
Blue apple (Ao ringo).

電気のカラーコードは単に色がみにくいだけだと思いますよ(笑)
今では緑は緑と表現されますが、例のように一部の単語には青という表現が使われています。
Uhhh, you might be confused?
