最近私はＰＳ３を買いました。昔から買いたかったが、ちょっと高いし、貯金するようにしたので、最近まで買いていませんでした。でも、最近から古いモデルのＰＳ３の売りが止むようになったので、古いモデルがほしかったから、やっと買いました。なぜなら、古いモデルはＬｉｎｕｘのインストールすることができますから。私はプログラマーだし、ＰＳ３のアーキテクチャーが分かるようになるのがおもしろいですよ。
でも、プログラマーで、やっぱりゲームも大好きです。子供の頃からいろいろなゲームをしてきたが、プラットホームはＰＣだけでした。それで、そのＰＳ３はわたしの始めてのコンソールになりました。昔からFinal Fantasyのゲームの連続のことを聞いていて、ＰＳＮでFinal Fantasy VIIを買いました。それは古いゲームです。そのゲームの発表は13年前ぐらいでした。あのころ私は高校で勉強していました。毎週、週末の時、友達とゲーム市場にゲームを買いに行っていました。あのころ、友達とCRPGのゲームが好きで、JRPGがきらいでした。あのころFinal Fantasy VIIはとても人気があったので、ゲーム市場でそのゲームを買った人は多かったです。その人はいつも友達に笑われたんです。
でも、今は自分でその時の笑われたゲームを買って、とても面白いだと思っています。そう言えば、あの時の友達は今どんなゲームをしているのかな。
皆さん、古いゲームが好きですか。子供の頃のゲームもう一度してみたくなかったか。

皆さん、お久しぶりですね。今度、夏休みの話のことを書きたいんです。
今年の夏休みは二週間だけでした。ちょっと短いですが、何か面白い所に行きたかったんです。まず、日本に行くいつもりでしたが、お金がないし、新しいアパートに転居しなければならないので、ヨーロッパに行こうと思っていました。
両親は、ギリシアに行こうと思ってたので、一緒に行こうと思っていました。ホテルは、アテネの近くにありました。色々な面白い所を見学したので、とても面白かったです。でも、ちょっとお邪魔がありました。
両親のアパートで、猫が住んでいます。二週間で一人で住むことができませんから、友達は猫と留守番しました。でも、ドアの一つのかぎ友達にあげるのを忘れてしまったので、彼はアパートに入ることができませんでした。猫のことは心配したので、知り合いのどろぼうに、ドアについてたのみました。彼はドアをこわして、猫を助かりました。それはよかったです。
次の日彼は新しいドアのロックを作って、友達は留守番をつづけました。
ギリシャでは、店にお土産に買いに行って、かわいい鍵のストラップを見て、友達に買いたかったんですが、その出来事の後で、ちょっと変なお土産と思っていました。
それで、モスクワに戻って、丈夫な猫に会いて、喜びました。

その有名な理想の映画があります。立て者は自分の副本を作るつもりです。もし副本がいたら、いろいろなことをするのができるはずだと思っています。でも、よく作ったのに、作らなければよかったでしょう。自分がたくさんあるので、一日中上下のけんかがつづけていました。誰も部下になりたくなかったそうです。みんなは目上になりたかったそうです。それでは、当たり前でしょう。人間の本性を違えられません。

私達にとって、大変な時、「もし私が二人いたら・・・」それとも「もっと時間が要るんだよ！」と言うのは、何人ですか。そんなときは、副本の自分がほしいんでしょう。副本の人生に生きたいんでしょう。もし間違いが分かれば、本物の人生に生きることができる。

それなら、私の日本語のクラスの教科書には、その理想はいい機会だと書くので、ちょっと楽しいです。大人の教科書なのに、そんな子供らしい想いのことが書いています。それとも、それは冗談でしょう。

A rough English translation of the above text:

"If only there were two of me"

What does it mean to be duplicitous? A duplicate is a copy of an original. Speaking about human behavior, it means the person we present to others is a fake. The "real" us exists somewhere, but we are presenting a duplicate in our own stead. Speaking about human culture, there are lots of fakes that we face every day. More money, more energy, more time... Even more of us.

There's a movie about this idea. Main hero wants to create a duplicate of himself. He thinks that if he can do it, he would be able to do lots of things. Even though the duplication went smoothly, he thinks that it'd be better not to do it. His duplicates turn into endless quarrels about who has power. Nobody wants to be a subordinate. Everybody wants to be a boss. Well, it's surely natural, isn't it. The human nature doesn't change that easily.

Speaking about us, how many of us exclaimed in times of trouble: "If only there were more of me to go around?" or "I just need a few more hours in the day!" During that times, we all want a fake duplicate of us. We want to live a fake life. But if we know our mistakes, we could have lived a true one.

Concluding the aforementioned, it was some kind of fun for me to see a text in our Japanese textbook that states that this idea is a great opportunity. This is a textbook for adults, yet they write such childish stuff sometimes. Or it is perhaps just a joke.

I have provided the original Russian text and somewhat close English translation to aid in understanding my Japanese, because the sentences are sometimes somewhat complicated - well, at least for me :) Thank you!

私がモスクワに行ったのは一昨日です。モスクワには私の友達が住んでいます。昨日友達と一緒にモスクワを見物しました。モスクワは大きくてきれいな町です。もう写真をたくさん撮っていました。昨日行ったのは赤の広場です。ホテルから赤の広場まではあまり遠くないですが、歩いて行くのはしばらくの時間がかかります。

二時間ぐらい散歩して、ホテルにトロリーバスで帰るつもりで、バス停へ行きました。トベルスカヤ道まで行ったトロリーバスが着きましたが、込んでいたので、次のはそろそろ着くと思うので、乗っていませんでした。次のトロリーバスに乗ると、運転手に切符を買って、窓のそばに座りました。暑かったので、窓を開けました。

トベルスカヤ道はとてもにぎやかです。両方ではきれいな建物がならんでいます。窓から見たら、広い道路を車やトロリーバスやバスなどが走っているのがたくさん見えました。歩道を人が歩きました。友達は三番目の乗り場で降りなければならないと言っていました。しばらくしてから、降りるために席を立ちました。

トロリーバスを降りると、地下の歩道で道路を渡って、地下鉄に着きました。エスカレーターで下りました。モスクワの地下鉄がきれいだそうですが、でもそんなにきれいだと思いませんでした。世の中ではそんなにきれいな地下鉄がありませんでしょう。写真を撮りたかったのに、ちょっと暗かったので、写真は撮られませんでした。

今日友達は忙しいから、町は見物しません。私は写真帳を買いに書店へ行くつもりです。昨日ホテルに帰った時、大きな書店に入りました。いろいろな本がありましたが、モスクワの風景の写真帳はありませんでした。明日ボリショイ劇場へバレーを見に行きます。そして、明後日は日本に帰ります。

I came to Moscow the day before yesterday. My friend lives there. Together we went sightseeing yesterday. Moscow is a big and very large city. I already have taken a lot of photos. Yesterday we went to Red Square. It's not very far from hotel, but on foot it will take some time.

Having spent around two hours walking, we, planning to return by trolley, went to the bus station. A trolley bound for Tverskaya street came, but it was overcrowded, so we, thinking that there will soon be next one, decided not to board it. Having boarded the next trolley, we have bought tickets from the driver and sat next to the window. It was very hot, so we opened up the window.

Tverskaya street is very busy. Along both its sides there are beautiful buildings lined up. Looking through the window we saw lots of cars, trolleys and buses driving along the wide roadway. People were walking along the sidewalk. My friend told that we were to alight on the third station. Some time later we stood up from our places in order to leave.

After taking off the bus, we crossed the street by the subway crossing and came to subway station. We descended via the escalator. I have heard that Moscow subway is beautiful, but have not even thought that it was so beautiful though. There's perhaps no such beautiful subway in the whole world. I wanted to take photos, but it was a bit dark, and the photos appeared not to to be very good.

Today my friend is busy, so no sightseeing. I'm going to visit a bookstore to buy a photo album. Yesterday on the way back to the hotel I visited a large bookstore. There were lots of different books, but no photo albums with Moscow scenery. Tomorrow we are going to Bolshoi Theater to watch ballet. And the day after tomorrow I return to Japan.

Я приехал в Москву позавчера. В Москве живёт мой друг. Вместе мы вчера осматривали достопримечательности Москвы. Москва - большой и очень красивый город. Я уже сделал много фотографий. Вчера мы ездили на Красную площадь. От отеля до Красной площади не так уж далеко, но если идти пешком, потребуется некоторое время.

Погуляв примерно два часа, мы, думая вернуться в отель на троллейбусе, пошли к троллейбусной остановке. Пришёл троллейбус, идущий до Тверской улицы, но он был переполнен, поэтому мы на него не сели, полагая, что скоро придёт следующий. Сев на следующий троллейбус, мы купили у водителя билеты и сели у окна. Было очень жарко, поэтому мы открыли окно.

Тверская улица очень оживлённая. По обеим её сторонам выстроились в ряд красивые здания. Мы смотрели в окно и видели, как по широкой проезжей части едет много машин, троллейбусов и автобусов. По тротуару шли люди. Друг сказал, что нам выходить на третьей остановке. Через некоторое время мы поднялись с мест, чтобы выйти.

Выйдя из троллейбуса, мы перешли улицу по подземному переходу и подошли к метро. Спустились на эскалаторе. Я слышал, что московское метро красивое, но что такое красивое - даже не думал. Такого красивого метро нет, наверно, во всём мире. Я собрался сделать фотографии, но было темновато, фотографии не получились.

Сегодня мой друг занят, поэтому осматривать город не пойдём. Я собираюсь поехать в книжный магазин, чтобы купить фотоальбом. Вчера по дороге в отель я заходил в большой книжный магазин. Там было много разных книг, но фотоальбома с видами Москвы не было. Завтра мы пойдём в Большой театр смотреть балет. А послезавтра я возвращаюсь в Японию.

I guess Hackers is one of -those- movies. Well, nitpickers like to brag about the inferior detail of coder-related movies done wrong, whether the parameters to nmap were right enough and stuff, ye know that - but that's another story. Maybe just because it just laughs over itself enough to get us that suspension of disbelief drug to make it real. It's just a movie at that those nitpickers fail, and fail miserably. They either get the fun - like the fans, or don't get the point - like the critics and other braindeads.

And it's real enough. Even though modems are slow, and surely ain't able transmit at that speed, and they get all that fancy graphics instead of a root shell - but they get us the social engineering and other great stuff. And they get us an awesome soundtrack - the soundtrack is so awesome that it's no way to tell about it here - that really gets the feel of the nineties - it's -the- nineties. Despite being in the childhood I clearly remember my 14,400 USRobotics and those wanderings through usenet over the provider's Unix shell from an Intel 80286 laptop :) And they even mentioned the Red Dragon Book of compiler design - well that's the point :)

Well, Hackers is one of my favorites of all-time, and they even get some -deep thoughts- to me, like to get my ass off the nonstop Japanese studies and get back to code, heh. Well, there's still some time till next ICFPC, and as I guess I'll skip Tokyo at least this July, it would be too bad not to pay it a visit. Well, recently, it seems to me, that if a movie really gets me into this mood deep enough, the movie just, well, -has- to be good :)

The study of Japanese is some kind of a plague, you know. When you just start, you think that you'll just offer it some free time, and nothing changes, and sure you can break it up at will. Well, hell nay. It will devour -all- your time and you'll just -never- stop. Well, you just think, if you already study for about a year, who the fuck would you be to just leave? And what the shit for you just end up devoting all that time of yours? Nay, you'll not gonna do it. Or will ye? ;-)

Well thanks guys and gals, for taking you time to read all this shit at your leisure :) It was all just mid-night rant of an old geezer, reminiscent of green grass - nay, neon lights of the nineties. I hope you get the point. And yeah, go watch Hackers, they're just pure fun :)

I anticipate the urgent need for US proxies indeed.
But something is really bothering me. Allowing of
getting paid online access to millions of out of print books is
awesome, but it looks a bit like abridged version of paid
libraries. Even in public library we are allowed to
copy the book, at no additional cost, and of course we ain't charged
for the reading. Yet now we shall pay for view, and
won't be allowed to print.

Google surely makes great endeavors to aid the
accessibility of information, yet the right to
read that Stallman had spoken about
is surely getting away from us.

And we ain't paying for the service of accessibility,
as Google claims only 37 percent of revenue.

今日、おかしな日でした。明日病院を出ます。もう元気で、時々病院から逃げていました。そして、今日また逃げました。私は出かけていましたが、彼女が私に病院へ来ました。電話で「あんたはどこですか？！」と聞きました。私はうちにそばって、彼女は「あんたのばかやろう！」と答えました。おもしろいですね。。。
彼女は今度オレンジで私を倒しますって。

週末はＩＣＦＰＣです。世界のプログラマーのコンテストです。難しいですが、とても面白いです。三日間です。金曜日〜月曜日です。
来年、私のチームは１７０でした。たいへんでした。
今年、次のチームです。頑張ります：）

そして、今週は日本語のクラスを入りました。九月に始まります。高いです。知らない、そのクラスでいいかな。。。

友達は「どうして日本語を勉強します？ばかだろう。」と言いました。日本語を勉強したら、ばかかな。

友達は「日本語？今、海が唯一言葉要るぞ！」って。正直ですね。

This weekend ICFPC will be held. It is a worldwide programming contest. It is difficult, but also very interesting. It lasts for three days, starting on Friday and finishing on Monday.

Last year our team got 170th place. It was awful!
This year we have another team. We will try our best :)

Also, this week I've applied for Japanese classes. They will start in September. They are expensive. I don't know, whether they will be good...

My friends ask, why do I study Japanese? They say that I'm an idiot. I wonder, whether studying Japanese really means that I'm an idiot.

They say "Japanese? The only word I need to know now is the word \"sea\"!" I wonder if they are right.

Yesterday it was the birthday of my friend George.

Me and my friend Slavik with his wife went to the birthday party.

However, it was the middle of the week, so there were no liquor there. Also, Slavik and George didn't drink much lately, and I had drunk heavily last Sunday, so I didn't want to this time.

But today I thought that if there's no vodka at the party, the party gets really boring.

We were just sitting it up for hours doing nothing, trying to think of some subject to talk about. Had we not bought some food, there'll be none. They even deceived us about the cake of course. The cake is a lie, that's what it is.

George's apartment has some zen-buddhist flavor. It's a large room with no furniture at all, with some tatami scattered around the floor, and some posters on the empty walls. Somehow I always get sleepy when I get there. I guess this is the place where real meditation is possible.

To conclude, had we got vodka, I suppose there'll be much more fun and sparkle in our eyes.
