Sheldon : A Gift (0)

A gift is a good thing to show you care about someone. It is really a challenge to pick out the perfect gift. I am probably wrong. If I really care about someone, it is impossible that I do not know what to buy. That is too idealistic. I cannot read someone’s mind all the time.

Sheldon : Christmas is just around the corner (0)

Christmas is just around the corner. As a traditional Chinese, I do not have special plan about Christmas, but I do like special Christmas food, such as gingerbread house. Ginger, the key ingredient of gingerbread house, was used as early as 2,500BC in China. We usually use it for soup. The flavor tastes awesome. I think it is kind of spice. Gingerbread house is also made with chocolate. Spice and sweet together are very delicious.

It’s very cold today. I put on layers of clothes to keep warm. I am wearing a sweater and a coat. I have a hat on my head, a scarf around my neck and gloves on my hands. I am trying to convince you that it is really cold now. However, some people are not afraid of cold. There is a fancy hotel in Haerbin, a big city in the north of China. The hotel is all made of ice. People have meals on the ice plates and sleep on the ice bed. It sounds cool. Xiao Long Nv, a famous character in the Kung fu novel , learnt excellent Kung fu on the ice bed. (小龙女在寒玉床上练出一身好功夫。) 

Sheldon : E-reading (0)

I like reading. I usually read online because it is very convenient to absorb the latest news. I like reading books online, too. There are a lot of books and study material on the Internet. I can take notes easily by computer. It makes a huge difference for my learning. I often sit in front of the computer all day long, so there is a big problem for my eyes. There is a new product Kindle which will probably solve my problem. You can hold it just like a real book and the screen looks like the page of a book too. But it cost over $200. That is way too high. I should start saving and wait for a big discount.

Do you like organic food? As you stand in front of the fresh vegetables at your local store, you are faced with decision. The organic vegetables and the traditional ones look alike. Both of them are edible. The organic vegetables are planted without chemical fertilizers. I think it would be more health and delicious. However, the scientist says the organic foods are overrated because the chemical residues on organic food are 0.0001~0.004.

I am a little frustrated when I read some posts about English dictionary. They said if you want to learn English well, you should not use the ESL dictionary. But I can’t truly understand a word through the dictionaries which they highly recommended.
I realized that my English is quite poor. I should learn English everyday; I am going to improve my English little by little. Don’t think too much.
I went to meet Tom in a restaurant last Sunday. He is my good friend. I have known him for more than 10 years. We know each other very well. I waited and waited, but he didn’t show up. I thought he had gotten in a traffic jam. I’d been waiting for 20 minutes when I realized that I was in the wrong restaurant.

(If there is anything that is not clear or doesn't sound natural to you, please let me know. Thanks a lot )

The Nobel Peace Prize 2009 went to Obama, the president of the USA which goes to wars all over the world. Now we know the Nobel committee is not only well aware of literature, but also war and peace. They must have done this for some convincing reasons that I have not known. “What has Present Obama actually accomplished?” I have to keep this question in the bottom of my heart for now.

Sheldon : Do you know Leo Tolstory? (0)

I read Resurrection when I was very young. I didn’t like it. It’s a famous novel from Leo Tolstory who is widely regarded as the greatest of novelists. His masterpieces War and Peace ranked top of the Newsweek list of Top 100 Books in 2009. (There are not any Asia books in the list. It’s a huge mistake. ) I think I should read some novels from Tolstory. I was too young to enjoy his novel. I’ve planed to learn Russian after I could use English freely. But it takes significant time to learn a new language. I can’t wait so long. I will read the Chinese translation at first.

Sheldon : The most popular Mandarin books (0)

Do you know which books are the most popular books in China? If you ask different people, they may have different answers. However, if you mention the textbooks YUWEN, I think they would all agree that they are the most popular books in China. Millions of Chinese people read them a lot to learn Mandarin. I still remember some covers of my textbooks YUWEN. It took me a lot of time.
I think it would be a great help for you. I searched them on the Internet and found the People Education Press has already put them on the Internet and you can read them for free!

It’s been a long day. I did so much. I’ve leant a lot about English grammar, especially the details of tenses. I learnt present simple, present continuous, past simple and past continuous. I will learn present perfect tomorrow which often mix up with past simple. But I think I am going to solve this problem this time. Thanks for the comments of my friends posted on my entries before, I have already known the main differences between them. It makes a big difference if I know how to use the exact tense or not. I am always using the tense erratically. I am working on it. 

I am trying hard to dislodge the stupid feeling about her, and I couldn’t concentrate. My heart quicken every time when I see her. What bright light there is seemed to be radiating from her skin.
Sheldon : I planed to memorize 100 words everyday. (0)

I planed to memorize 100 words everyday. It’s a mission impossible. I can’t stand an unmanageable glut of information like this anymore. I discovered that the proportion of forgetting is way too high. I have to stop memorize new words and recite the words that I’ve already known. I have to say there are too many words to learn if I want to read English newspaper or watch English movies. How many words do you think is enough for them? It would be definitely enough if you know 3500 Mandarin characters. If my memory servers me correctly, you need to know around 20,000 words for SAT but you only need around 5,000 characters for China university entrance exam.

I am overwhelmed with my plan of learning English. I have to impose a strict limitation on the amount of new knowledge that can be learnt everyday, and pay more attention to the accurate selection of material. It’s also a good way to learn Mandarin. I found some Mandarin website below which focus on kids. I hope them help you learn Mandarin.
http://www.61w.cn/
http://www.chinakids.net.cn/

Sheldon : More Sheldon? (1)

I am considering changing my English name to Sheldon. You probably know it is from the TV show The Big Bang Theory. I am also wondering if I should be more Sheldon or less. It is complicated.
I think he lives a simple regular life. He is arrogant and manipulative. But I don’t think that he doesn’t care about other people. He doesn’t pay much attention to something people usually think it is important. He is different obviously and not a nice person. I guess he thinks he is a nice person, maybe a remarkable person is more proper.
I like this topic. I’ll talk about it more when I improve my English. In addition, I have to be more Sheldon to talk more. That is what I have not decided yet and I also want to know your idea about this.

Sheldon : A song from Whitney (2)

Album: The soundtrack of the bodyguard
Year: 1992

Each day I play the role of someone always in control but at night I come home and turn the key, there's nobody there; no one cares for me. What's the sense of trying hard to find your dreams without someone to share it with, tell me what does it mean?

There is always someone who longs for love. This song comes from the bottom of these hearts. It is written in a descriptive manner, which is not common in Chinese songs.

Do you have the experience in this song? During the day, the time flies as swiftly as an arrow but at night you are sleepless on the bed waiting for the sun rise day after day. Would you remember someone touched your heart whom you wanna fall in love with? If his/her face passed in review before your eyes, would you hear the loneliness calls?

At this time, the simple lines come out from an incredible gifted vocalist’s mouth. Whitney roared, “I wanna run to you Oooh-hooo. If I come to you, tell me will you stay or will you run away?” Here Whitney comes across as soulful and sincere as oooh at the right place. The bold roar becomes fleetingly meaningful reflection of our emotions.

All in all, I hope you enjoy this song. It's a delight to hear someone sing so beautifully.

You can hear it here:http://cd12.static.jango.com/music//18/80/89/1880895231.mp3

Sheldon : American Next Top Model S12 (0)

I have finished the ANTM S12. I do like Allison, a cute girl with big eyes which are the No.1 must for a beauty. Her cat walk in the final show is energy and nature. It looks the light radiated from her to fill all the screen, stunning. Teyona’s is too robotic and too cool, up to cold. I guess she was thinking I was the super model and you were nothing at all at that time. Allison was just enjoying the time one the runway and trying to do it better. Allison can make a real talk. She can use the exact word to express herself.

I also like Celia. She is very stylish and intelligent. As the same time, I detest Aminat. She said time after time Celia was too old in the last of the show. I think she knows she is not as good as Celia and there is not other weak point she can get from Celia. Celia doesn’t look old. On the opposite, I think Aminat doesn’t look young though she is in her early 20’s, maybe not to 20. I am not sure.

I like London too. She has smile eyes. She trusts the God. I always like the guys who trust the God though I am not a religious person. At the first night in the big house with only 12 beds for 13 models, London gave up her bed for other girls. That is so sweet. She was eliminated because she got some weight. I still likes her.

It is the last season of the show. Do you know their latest news?

Sheldon : Run to you (2)

Album: The soundtrack of the bodyguard
Year: 1992

Each day I play the role of someone always in control but at night I come home and turn the key, there's nobody there; no one cares for me. What's the sense of trying hard to find your dreams without someone to share it with, tell me what does it mean?

There is always someone who longs for love. This song comes from the bottom of these hearts. It is written in a descriptive manner, which is not common in Chinese songs.

Do you have the experience in this song? During the day, the time flies as swiftly as an arrow but at night sleepless on the bed waiting for the sun rise day after day. Would you remember someone touched your heart and made you wanna fall in love with? If his/her face passed in review before your eyes, would you hear the loneliness calls?

At this time, the simple lines come out from an incredible gifted vocalist’s mouth. Whitney roared, “I wanna run to you Oooh-hooo. If I come to you, tell me will you stay or will you run away?” Here Whitney comes across as soulful and sincere as oooh at the right place. The bold roar becomes fleetingly meaningful reflection of our emotions.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this song. It's a delight to hear someone sing so beautifully.

Sheldon : English grammar is very difficult for me. (1)

English grammar is very difficult for me. I am very confused about the sentence below.
1. I’ve just got a new word from a novel and the TV comedy The Big Bang Theory.
2. I just got a new word from a novel and the TV comedy The Big Bang Theory.
3. I have lost my key.
4. I lost my key.

Sentence 1 is from my last diary and it should be like 2.
As I learned before, 3 is correct and 4 is wrong.
I have just remembered it but I do not really know why. My teacher told me I should use have+v-ed if something happened in the past and had effect now. But I think everything happened in the past have effect now. I am really confused about that.
Could you please tell me how to use this two time tense?

Sheldon : learning english words (2)

I have just completed the repetition of learning some English words. There are myriad words in English that I have to learn to read a novel without too much trouble. I don’t know if you use the word “myriad” in your spoken language. I’ve just got it from a novel and the TV comedy The Big Bang Theory. I am also wondering if the words from The Big Bang Theory is far from the daily American English. What do you think?

Sheldon : I am very glad I found this website. (0)

I always want to write something in English and there will be some native speaker who would like to give me some pieces of advice. So here I am. I hope I could find my niche here.

I'd like to help your learning of Chinese. Chinese is one of the most oldest languages that is still in use. It's very difficult and easy. It’s a paradox and paradoxes are part of Chinese culture. It's hard to explain in Chinese, not even English. I wish I could improve my English and then there is one day I could let you know something about that.

It's almost 9:00. I have to go. See you next time.
