The following fact was proven experimentally and scientifically. Children can learn a second language much faster than adults. In addition, after a certain age, it was impossible to master a second language like a first language.
There is a significant difference in the brain function between people who learn a second language in their early childhood and after becoming adult. In other words, there is the critical period of learning language.
Before the certain age, there was a possibility to be a bilingual person. However, I am already adult, so my brain activity changed long time ago. I have to give up learning English perfectly.
Even if I study English for 100 years, it is impossible for me to use English like a native speaker; however, the author also said studying second language continuously makes us using it better.

However, I am already (an) adult, so my brain activity changed a long time ago. (if "adult" is an adjective, it's OK, but if it's a noun, use "an")
Even if I study English for 100 years, it is impossible for me to use English like a native speaker; however, the author also said that studying second language continuously makes us better at using it.
if you see --> の <-- you know what it is without even thinking.
If we forcefully try to forget these simplifications, I think we can look at a second language more in the way that a child sees it.
Of course, you cannot do anything about your brain functions, but I once I stopped thinking of Japanese in terms of English, and began trying to accept Japanese as-is, without translation, I began to learn much faster.
... but once I stopped ...
I get so embarrassed when I make an English mistake on Lang-8! ^_^;
