Sometimes I assign myself to read a book. My birthday is in November. In November I read the book called "Birthday Stories". This book is an anthology of English short stories related to birthday selected and translated by Haruki Murakami. Somehow, though it's still July, suddenly I wanted to read it and read for the last a couple of the days.
I am not a huge fan of Haruki Murakami. However, I might like his voice ( "writing style" is my dictionary's suggestion, but I am not sure if the words are correct ) only used when he translates. It's dry, differs from his Japanese original fictions.
Through the last short fiction that is his original, he states that no matter how you go, you cannot be anyone else but yourself. When I read this for the first time several years ago, it didn't mean much, now, it's my favourite part of this book. I, myself is a cage to capture me. It may sound like a curse for some people. For me it is simply a fact I learned through my life, so When I read this, I feel at ease.
This year I may try to read English version of this book. I fall asleep when I read an English book. This is also my curse, though, I want to break it.
