I don't think it is quite the same as in Japan, but a lot of people have "seasonal allergies" that get bad during different parts of the year.

I think hay fever is everywhere.

Fifty years ago, people with allergies came here because very few things grew in the desert. Then, people said, "This place would look better with grass, trees, flowers ..." and here we are. >,<
