"アラフォー" won the buzzwords of the year last year. It's a shortened form of "around forty," referring to people, usually women, aged around 40. The term was used as a title of TV drama, featuring women of that generation. Women of "around 40" are relatively well off and choosy, whether married or unmarried. Of course we use it about men. After it become very popular, we created the word, "アラサー" meaning around thirty. That's funny, huh?
