I just got a comment on my blog from someone known as "dude".

「that kanji looks like what my 5-year old students write.
you need to get some scrap paper and write them properly. otherwise, there’s no reason to practice.」
と言いましたね。
彼は、間違います。でも、僕は本当に漢字が書くこと良くなりたいと思います。
I think he's wrong. But I really do think I want to improve my kanji writing.

「Well I'm only mostly aiming for recognition. I'm a bit of a ワープロバカ. And when reviews get boring, I tend to really rush them.」と返信しました。
どうでしょうか？ 漢字が書く時に、とってもつまらないになります。原稿用紙を持っていますが、よく使いません。さらに使えば、ちょっと・・まだ悪いです。 (笑）その上、小学生の書字は全然書けない場合でいるよりもっと良いですね。
What do you think? When I'm writing kanji, it tends to become boring. I have some genkouyoushi (or, can print it anyway), but I don't use it a lot. Even if I do, it's... well... still bad :D Besides, having an elementary school student's writing is better than being in a position of not being able to write at all, right?
Ankiとkanji.koohii.comで復習しています。漢字がよく書ければなりません。だから、書字がへたくそと思います。
I review using Anki and kanji.koohii.com. I don't have to write out kanji a lot. That's why I think my writing is really bad.
Heisigの『Remembering the Kanji』のポイントは正書を習うのに、刺激が持てないようです。
Even though the point of Heisig's "Remembering the Kanji" is to learn correct writing, it looks like I can't get the motivation to do so.
多分、漢字がよく書けはずでしょうか。これから、書くつもり!
Maybe I should write kanji more often. From now on, I intend to write!

あぁ、もう一つ質問があります。「the point of/reason for ~ doing something」は日本語で何と言いますか? 例えば: 「The point of the book is to learn math.」「ポイント」は間違いますね。

老哼さん、ありがとう。ノートに追加しよう。＾＾ 「目的」が知っていましたが、他の2つは知っていません。
あの名前（老哼）は、中国語から来ますか？ 発音の仕方は何ですか？ EDICTの日本語辞書で探せていません。

＝する目的はとか～する意味は という言い方
特に今の時代ほとんど手書きする機会もないので、「上手に」かけなくても「読める」字ならOKだと私はおもってます。。。

I didn't notice that I typed ありがとう backwards. How embarrassing.. ありたごう...wow I must be losing it :P And to think I proofread it..

Dude! He's wrong. It's unwise to compare a student learning a language as his second language with someone who speaks or writes it as his first language.
I can't see his point.
Actually, purpose is often rendered as "目的"
e.g. purpose of life 人生の目的
and goal as 目標
e.g. set a goal 目標を設定する
I don't mean to challenge 老哼さん。
He's absolutely right.
However, translation usually depends upon its context.

I'm not sure if "dude" is a native Japanese speaker actually.. he very well could have a point if he isn't.. and even so he's still right.
I feel bad for not writing them better now >> It's just really hard to get into the habit of practicing them.

BUT! I do have one thing to save my butt.. I was writing it with a mouse on a computer :D
I was trying to demonstrate one of Anki's plugins that lets you draw out a kanji. When I do reviews that way, I don't write carefully. I just use that as a sketch pad to figure out which elements of a character go in which spots. I tend to rush through reviews because they get boring fast, which means I rush writing them out too.
Hopefully my kanji writing is better on paper than it is with a mouse. When I use paper, I try really hard to get it to look right, but it seems like it never comes out.

Oh, man... you must be kidding. Writing Kanji with a mouse???
I cannot do that... Actually, I could if I try, but I'm sure they will look awful.
My handwriting is not good either though ^^;

It would be great if I had a tablet PC..
Maybe I can convince my parents to get one.. it helps my studies after all :D

きれいでなくてもちゃんと意味が伝わることが一番大切だと思います。
kanji.koohii.comは良さそうなサイトですね。
きれいな文字を書く練習を「習字」といいますが、これは日本人でもなかなか苦労します。ただ、習字の基礎として「永字八法（えいじはっぽう）」というものがあります。どの漢字でもこの８つのルールを応用して書けるので、「永」という文字を練習するだけで、きれいな漢字を書くコツがわかります。

Wow, thanks so much sys! I don't do calligraphy (I want to) but it looks like a great technique to finally get my handwriting to improve.
