The first time a cockroach appeared in my house since I started living by myself in Japan, I was so scared that I couldn't move for a few seconds. For some reason, the cockroaches here are bigger than the ones back in my home country, and its skin(?) is more hard. When I took out the bug spray and sprayed the cockroach, it had little affect. The reason was because it wasn't a spray for cockroaches. I thought, 'Huh, is this thing invincible?' and my sense of fear grew greater.

The next thing I did may surprise you, but I thought it was the only thing I could do and I was able to dispose of the cockroach quickly. I took out the vacuum cleaner and sucked the cockroach up it.
However, I know it was still inside and could come out at anytime, so I went to get help from my neighbour and rang her bell.
"Catherine! I sucked up a cockroach so can you get rid of it for me? Please!!" I asked her frantically.

After Catherine came out calmy and I explained the situation to her, she took out the vacuum cleaner bag and threw it away from me.
My friends find this funny when I tell them about this story.
