「もし私が二人いたら・・・」
二分されているといえば、どういう意味ですか。副本は本物の写しです。人間の行動だといえば、もんなに見せる自分はまがいです。自分の本物がどこかにあるとき、みんなには自分のかわりに副本を見せます。人間の文化にとって、毎日副本がたくさん見えます。もっともっと金や力や時間など・・・　そして、もっと自分が要ります。

その有名な理想の映画があります。立て者は自分の副本を作るつもりです。もし副本がいたら、いろいろなことをするのができるはずだと思っています。でも、よく作ったのに、作らなければよかったでしょう。自分がたくさんあるので、一日中上下のけんかがつづけていました。誰も部下になりたくなかったそうです。みんなは目上になりたかったそうです。それでは、当たり前でしょう。人間の本性を違えられません。

私達にとって、大変な時、「もし私が二人いたら・・・」それとも「もっと時間が要るんだよ！」と言うのは、何人ですか。そんなときは、副本の自分がほしいんでしょう。副本の人生に生きたいんでしょう。もし間違いが分かれば、本物の人生に生きることができる。

それなら、私の日本語のクラスの教科書には、その理想はいい機会だと書くので、ちょっと楽しいです。大人の教科書なのに、そんな子供らしい想いのことが書いています。それとも、それは冗談でしょう。

A rough English translation of the above text:

"If only there were two of me"

What does it mean to be duplicitous? A duplicate is a copy of an original. Speaking about human behavior, it means the person we present to others is a fake. The "real" us exists somewhere, but we are presenting a duplicate in our own stead. Speaking about human culture, there are lots of fakes that we face every day. More money, more energy, more time... Even more of us.

There's a movie about this idea. Main hero wants to create a duplicate of himself. He thinks that if he can do it, he would be able to do lots of things. Even though the duplication went smoothly, he thinks that it'd be better not to do it. His duplicates turn into endless quarrels about who has power. Nobody wants to be a subordinate. Everybody wants to be a boss. Well, it's surely natural, isn't it. The human nature doesn't change that easily.

Speaking about us, how many of us exclaimed in times of trouble: "If only there were more of me to go around?" or "I just need a few more hours in the day!" During that times, we all want a fake duplicate of us. We want to live a fake life. But if we know our mistakes, we could have lived a true one.

Concluding the aforementioned, it was some kind of fun for me to see a text in our Japanese textbook that states that this idea is a great opportunity. This is a textbook for adults, yet they write such childish stuff sometimes. Or it is perhaps just a joke.
