The Differences between Pure Japanese Words and Words of Chinese Origin

Today, I’m going to share with you about the differences between pure Japanese words and words of Chinese origin with examples.
It is believed that the words of Chinese origin are considered more formal in Japanese society.
For instance, when you would like to say “get up” in Japanese, you could say “okiru起きる” or “kisyousuru起床する.”
The former is a pure Japanese word, and the latter is a word of Chinese origin.
We never use words of Chinese origin when speaking, as it sounds too formal.
The words of Chinese origin are mainly used in Japanese newspapers.

Thank you so much for reading! If you could correct my post, I would appreciate it very much!

和語と漢語の違い

今日は和語と漢語の違いについて説明していきたいと思います。
漢語は和語と比較しフォーマルな場面で使われることが多いと言われています。
例えば、日本語でget up という時、日本人は「起きる」あるいは「起床する」と言います。
前者は和語であり後者は漢語です。
日本人は話をする時に漢語は使いません。その理由はフォーマルすぎるためです。
漢語はとりわけ日本の新聞で用いられます。
