In my text book, in a column of "DID YOU KNOW?", there are three expressions using "thing", "thingy" and "thingymajig."

1) It's a thing for peeling potatoes.
2) What's that thingy called?
3) What's that thingymajig for opening cans called?

I've never heard the words used in 2) and 3). Do you really use those words in your daily lives? Are there any differences between those words in meaning, nuance, etc.? If you use those words, would you show some example sentences for me, please> Thank you! ^^
