When speaking of lychees, people can't help but to think of Yang Guifei(Imperial Consort Yang), who was the apple of Emperor Xuanzong's eyes─and her favorite fruit is lychees, and since then, lychees have became one of the symbols of luxurious fruits.

Lychees are categorized as semi tropical fruit trees. They have been already harvested in southern China for more than 1000 years, and now, they are also planted in south eastern countries like Vietnam or Thailand.

The majority of lychees in Taiwan come from the central and southern areas, and they are harvested in order as the harvest season moves north as time goes on in a year, the earliest of which allow harvesting in April. Different varieties then get ripe one after another, so we can still enjoy tasty lychees at the end of July. The Yuherbau lychees is the most well-known variety among lychee varieties in Taiwan.
