常用漢字を勉強する (Studying the Jouyou Kanji)

最近は、常用漢字を勉強しています。
I've been studying the jouyou kanji recently.

目標は今年末まで常用漢字に対する意味や読みやいくつかの単語を習うことです。
My goal is to learn the meanings, readings and a couple of vocabulary words for each jouyou kanji by the end of this year.

今まで１６００の漢字を勉強しています。
I'm studying 1600 of them so far.

１つの勉強のし方は「Ｋａｎｊｉｌａｂ」というプログラムを使うことです。
One way that I study is by using a program called "KanjiLab."

それぞれの漢字のそれぞれの読みには、ＫａｎｊｉＬａｂにその読みを使う言葉があります。
For each reading of each kanji, there are words in KanjiLab which use that reading.

本や漫画や日記のコメントを読む時には、勉強していることを覚えないかな。^^;
I wonder whether I will remember what I've been studying when I read books and manga and journal entry comments.

That's a great target. I'd been focusing on something similar, but recently my focus has been more conversational Japanese than writing. Not sure if it's useful for your purposes, but I recently started using this website too:

When you refer to relatively large software, such as Microsoft Word, "アプリ" or "アプリケーション" is more common. I used to write "アプリケーション・ソフトウェア" when I had to write something for magazines.

The intended meaning was that I am still working on those 1600 kanji; there are certainly many among those that I know fairly well, but at least a couple of hundred for which I am still learning new vocabulary words. Is there any simple, clear, unambiguous way of indicating that I am still working on some of these?

I think "今までに" doesn't go with "しています" because "今までに" implies "completion"; so for instance, "今までに1600の漢字を勉強しました" is basically, I think, you have already finished learning them (at least you think so). And "しています" is you're in the middle of learning. You learn "1600 kanji" and are learning them, so maybe you have already finished (memorized) part of them or even all of them, but you still continue learning them.

So if you want to use "今までに" or "これまでに,"
今までに/これまでに、1600の漢字を勉強してきました。
is a more natural sentence to me.

But as you said, "you're still working on some of these, I might use, "今のところ" = (maybe) currently + so far...
今のところ、1600の漢字を勉強しています。
is clearer to me. I think my suggestion might be subtle to others, but most people think "you study/are studying 1600 kanji, part of which you have finished, but you still are working on them."

But it depends on the verb or the context. For instance, "今までに/これまでに100冊の本を読みました/読んできました/読んでいます" or "今のところ100冊の本を読みました/読んできました/読んでいます" are almost the same meaning (nuances are different but minor) because when you say, "読んだ" you finish reading. And nobody is reading 100 books at the same time. :)

I hope this explanation is not complicated. I sometimes tend to explain too detailed, so if you have anything sure of, please let me know.

So, I have to add, "今までに/これまでに、1600の漢字を'勉強しました'" ;)

最後のセンテンスはご提案です。I wonder whetherは色々訳し方があると思うけど、一番しっくりくるのは、

「〜は、ちょっと無理かも」

というニュアンスです。つまり、今一生懸命勉強しているけど、その勉強内容を、コメント読んだり漫画読んだりしているときにも思い出せるだろうか、ちょっと思い出せないだろうなぁ、というニュアンスです。

I need to explain what I meant by the sentence 「それぞれの漢字のそれぞれの読みには、ＫａｎｊｉＬａｂにその読みを使う言葉があります」, because I think that all of the corrections of this sentence changed the intended meaning. By "words which use a particular reading" I meant "words in which the kanji is pronounced with that reading."

For example, one of the readings of 言 is ゲン. Some words which use this reading of 言 include 言語、予言、and 言論. Another reading of 言 is こと. Some words which use this reading of 言 include 言葉 and 一言.

KanjiLab gives several words in which the pronunciation of 言 is ゲン, several words in which the pronunciation of 言 is ゴン, several words in which the pronunciation of 言 is こと, and several words in which the pronunciation of 言 is い. This gives the user practice in recognizing all of the yomi in actual words.

上のコメントのように、それぞれの漢字について、
”全ての”読み方（all of the yomi)とその使用例がある、ということを言いたいのならば、

「Kanjilabでは、それぞれの漢字の読み方が複数の具体例とともに網羅されています」
という言い方もあります。「網羅する」は、completely cover an area という感じの意味です。この日本語を英語に直すと、
KanjiLab covers all yomi of each kanji with examples.
となります。

羅も、網と同様にNetという意味です。
「網羅（もうら）する」は、魚を一匹残らず捕まえる網のように、全てを漏らさず対象とする、とイメージすると憶えやすいと思います。

常用漢字は1,600以上もあるんですね。今、別ウィンドウで調べたら、常用漢字の総字数は２１３６字でした。私には書けない漢字がたくさんありそうです。
