Nao : Gerund (2)

Please look at the following sentences. These are the examples of the use of gerund.

1. Shooting birds is banned here.
2. The shooting of birds is banned here.

Here's a difference of their objects. When 'the' is put before gerund, the phrase becomes completely a noun and it loses the function as a verb. So we must use 'of' before its object.

However, I doubt whether the next sentence could be correct or not.

3. The taking of pictures is banned here.

I think that it seems to be unnatural.

What do you think?

Nao : Conformity (3)

This word is often used when someone discusses a community of Japan.
It means the nature which one wishes being same as others and hesitates to express one's opinion strongly.

We Japanese cherish this concept. I think this is because we may be worried for being disliked by others or disgusting someone. Actually I often behave like this, but I don't like this considering. I wish we were more active or aggressive.

What is your nature of nation?

Nao : Three trillion dollars (3)

This is the money which has been used for Iraq War until today.

I've read "The Three Trillion Dollar War: The True Cost of the Iraq Conflict".
This was written about the cost of Iraq War which America has used since the war began.

I couldn't believe this figures and I knew that there are still a lot of problems in America such as veterans who came back, injustice finance of the war and enormous budgets for the war. This book is little difficult, but it taught me that one war costs many people extraordinary money and it makes them annoy seriously.

I am especially interested in America's PMC(Private Military Company). Anybody can join the company or what kinds of people will become its members?

At last, again, I'd like to ask you a question.

What do you think about Iraq War?

Please tell me your thought existing in your heart.

Nao : Good Day (10)

Last week, I wrote an essey whose title was Bad Day because I didn't speak English at all in conversational school.

However, today was a Good Day!! That's why I could talk about many things with my classmates!! I spoke more English than last week.

The theme of the lesson was a certain hiphop music which had been famous among teenagers the other day. It starts the following passage.

"Hey, this is radio station W-S-K-E-E
We're takin' calls off the wish line"

I forgot asking this music name...
Do you know this song?

Nao : Twin Sisters (11)

Today, I could experience very interesting happening.

I taught twin sisters in my cram school.
I've never met twins, so it was for the first time that I talked with twin!!
Since I had to teach them at the same time(in my cram school I teach two students in one hour), so at first I was confused owing to thier similatiry.

Compared this sisters, it seemed that certainly they have a lot in common, but each of them has some dissimilar points. For example, thier characteristics, their favorite things, thier dreams and their ways of thinking.

I was so intersted in those things, so I enjoyed today's teaching.

Next week I'll try to talk with them more.

Since I was a college student, I've watched F1 on TV.
Last year I also went to 鈴鹿サーキット(Suzuka circuit).

Why have I loved it? That's why my favorite girl had liked F1, so I began to watch it for chatting with her about that^^;

Now that I'm really into it. Sounds, designs, drivers. There are a lot of fascinating things in F1. RedBull is the best of all F1 teams I think.
I love Sebastian Vettel!! I saw him at 鈴鹿 last year, but I couldn't get his autograph.

Well, I'd like to ask you questions.
Do you like F1? Who is the most favorite driver of you?
If you aren't interested in F1, what do you think F1?
Day 8 May 30th

【The way to my home】
Even though it was the last day of my trip, it had been raining and very cold.
Remembering my travel, I couldn't help feeling sad and wanting to stay here more.

I also embarked the Ferry and went back my home for about 14 hours!!
This was because I didn't use freeway owing to the lack of money...
There aren't nothing to wtite, sorry.

This travel made me consider my life and whether it would be right or not to toil away for my company. I had met many kinds of people and heard many profound taliking. In the conversation, I could know that whoever lives in this world has something hard and inevitable, so we must not escape from those things but confront with them. I think that there are so many ways to live that I can change my job and live with many fun.

Even though after coming back my home I slept at 3:00 am, I got up at 7:00 am in order to do some things I had to do today. It was somewhat hotter than yesterday, but fall seems to be gradually approching.

【BBQ with my friends】

At noon, I and my friends who used to be my classmates in junior high school were going to a river side near our city. Being in Obon or during a summer vacation, there were a plenty of youngmen, children and family. The spot we decided to do BBQ was by the short fall, so we could feel cooler as much as your air conditioner.

Today, we were five and didn't buy much foods because we didn't want to have some leftovers. However despite less quantity, we could enjoy eating meets and drinking alcohol drinks.^^ We ate meat, meat, rice ball, meat and meat!!w(There were almost meats 'only' !!) This opportunity brought us many times to talk about our work, our girlfriend(or girls) and our memory of the student era.

Only 5 hours we spent, but it was a good pastime in this summer. Now that all amusement of my three days summer vacation was finished, I'll have to work and to study English and Italian. My summer is finished.

I feel some solitary now, but last these three days will make it possible to do everything I have to do. That is to say Our friends gave me so much power and energy, I thought.

ｗｗ

Day 7 May 29th

【五稜郭(Goryoukaku)】

五稜郭 was built in order to protect 函館 seaport in Edo era. The most outstanding
characteristic is its shape. As its name says, it is like a star. In 1868(明治 era)
the 箱館（not 函館）war was began which was caused by both the army of new government(in Japanese 新政府軍) and the one of old government(in Japanese 旧政府軍）. This is one of the most famous wars in Japan. If you want to know more information, please examine by yourselves...^^;

There is also 五稜郭タワー(the tower of 五稜郭) near 五稜郭 which has an observatory on top of it. You can see not only a beautiful 函館 view but also the shape 五稜郭.
Oh and the history of 五稜郭 is exhibited here with many pictures and explanations.
Here I ate two gelatos.

After visiting 五稜郭, I went to a cake shop which is recommended in my travel magazine. It costed me 1500yen, but I enjoyed even two cakes and a glass of coffee. As the magazine said, they were very marvelous and sophisticated.^^
Almost all of the guests were women, so at first I was embarrassed..^^; But I could really spend about two hours so happily.

Next day was my departure one, so I really wanted not to go back my home. I would stayed more...I felt something sad then...

※In this day, I took a lot of pictures, but I can't show you everything!!!!
These three photos are selected carefully, so you can enjoy its atomosphere^^

For the first time in my life, I experienced this strange vending machine.

According to information from web, there are some kinds of vending machines which offer noodles(not cupnoodles) like this. For example, Raman, Udon and Soba.

Though I like Soba very much, it tastes ummm....It became のびる(I don't know its English) and wasn't good...

However it was very exciteing experience for me.

Nao : Speaking Ability (4)

Today, I went to English conversation school and talked with my calssmates.

I was absolutely considered that I'm not good at speaking English...
One of my classmates who I fall in love with(it's just joking^^;) can speak English
very well.

Her talking doesn't stop and she can show her thinking one after another!!
On the other hand, when I talk with my teacher, fitst I make my conversation in myself, then I speak English. It makes me embarrassed...

Improving my speaking ability is one of the things I have to do, but I have been bothered how I can do that. Must I only experience opportunities to talk with native speakers?

What do you think?
Today I worked in my crum school about 4 hours, because half of the sepecial summer workshop was finished last week and this week I teach English for students as usual.
It being cooler than every other days, we are able to spend being comfortable.

Well, from now on I'll wtite about a perfume which is one of my hobbys.
(Not about "Perfume" which is the music group of Japan.ww)

I have bought a lot of perfumes and have experienced many kinds of scents. Judging from my friends and magazines, many Japanese men usually use the perfumes made for men, in short they have masculine smells. However I don't like such smells because they are too manly for me to continue smelling for a long time...

To my shame, I am attached to women's scent such as hair one, cosmetic one. Feminine scent fells like making me relaxed and ease. When I went out with my first girlfriend, she had given me nice scent every times. She always had made me happy. One day she bought me the Salvatore Ferragamo fragrance. It taught me goodness of perfumes and since then I have been absorbed in them.

Although I have used men's perfumes, I have absolutely loved ones for women.
I always put them on. I love especially "Rush 2" made by Gucci. Calvin Klein also invents wonderful perfumes.

What perfumes do you like?^^

Day 6 May 28th

【洞爺湖(Toya Lake)】

Leaving 登別(Noboribetu), 洞爺湖 was next place. 洞爺湖 is the place on which the 34th G8 Summit was held in 2008. According to Wiki, in the year Hokkaido had bad economy, so the summit botherd Hokkaido in financial problem. However, the summit made 洞爺湖 more famous to all of Japanese.

There is the active volcano which is called Mt.Usu(有珠山), so those who have lived there have been damaged by its eruption for several times. Recently in 2000 the volcano erupted. Travelers can know its history in 洞爺湖町立火山科学館(the volcano museum in 洞爺). Of course I visited there and could know what the people have been taken the damage from the volcano and how they could revive from the disasters.

【Back to 函館(Hakodate)】

Maybe at 16:00 in the afternoon, I began to go back to 函館 that is to say my starting point of 北海道 travel. It was hard raining, but I could possibly return to 函館.

Since I couldn't see the nightview from 函館山(Mt.Hakodate), so I tried to go there and to watch it, but the top of the mountail still had thick cloud. Again I couldn't do it...

The weather wasn't likely to recover, so I walked around 函館.
After two days I had to go back my home. I didn't want to do that, because I became
to be a lover of 北海道...

Oh, I also went to bars today!!^^ One of them had a good nightview which was in a Hotel.

Day 6 May 28th

Today I visited 新千歳空港 which is located in western from 十勝.
You think why I went to an airport, don't you? This is because 新千歳空港 has a large shopping mall and food courts.

Since I have not bought any souvenirs, so I wanted to buy them in that place.
Most of the famous Hokkaido's souvenirs are sold there. For example, some sweets, sake and even sushi!! I spend much money buying many things, but I was absolutely satisfied.

登別 is known to Japanese as one of the most famous spas. There are not only many
spas but also sightseeing spots. I went to 地獄谷(the Jigoku valley) which is a crater fo volcano and is still erupting with sulfur gas.

Travelers can go into it and experience the power of the volcano.
It smelled like bad eggs...^^;

登別 has a lot of spas, so if you will go there, you will be able to take many spas and enjoy its beautiful view!!

Day 5 May 27th

Leaving from 阿寒湖, I visited 十勝平野(Tokachi plain) which has a lot of 牧場(a stock farm), so there are many many milk cows.十勝平野 is located in central of 北海道 next to 帯広(Obihiro).Since I have heard that the road of 十勝 is so wide and straight that drivers are tend to sleep while driving. So I drove my car very carfully.

Today it was very sunny, so the driving was very comfortable and fun for me.^^

In that area,I went to ナイタイ高原牧場(Naitai highland stock farm) which is located in a high moutain.Although the view from there was very marvelous and nice, the most impressing thing was its milk.It was very deep and milky(but it was expensive.A glass of mlik was maybe 300yen.

【襟裳岬(Erimo cape)】

襟裳岬 is the place which is located in south of 北海道.From 十勝平野 to 襟裳岬 it took me 3 hours. This driving was the most borging in my travel....

Before the sun set, I could arrive there and watch the beautiful veiw with sun setting. It was one of the most inmpressive view in my life.^^But the wind was very
very strong and it was colder and colder...

Today I went to 温泉(spa) and lay down in my car.I didn't go to a bar because there wasn't any bars there....
I had been tired, but until then I had enjoyed my travel so much.

Day 4 May 26th

【In 網走(Abashiri)】

I went to the drift ice museum in 網走.
We can not only watch some creatures live in the sea of Hokkaido(such as クリオネ) but also experience the world of -20 degrees!!In that condition,a wet towel is frozen by shaking it.It was very interesting for me.ww

At night I also went to some bars and drink cocktails.^^
In the bar of 網走, I could experience a unique cocktail which tastes kind of cheese cakes.Very fantastic and marvelous one!!!
But I drunk too much cocktails every those day...
It costed me 8000yen every day...

By the way, what essey do you want me to write about 北海道 from now on?
Places or foods or cocktails?w
Let me know^^

Day 4 May 26th

【稚内（Wakkanai) to 網走(Abashiri)】

I got up at 5:00 in my car.It was rainy day and very cold!!It was too cold to sleep any longer,so I left 稚内 at 6:00 to 網走 where is northeast of Hokkaido.

The distance is about 200 km.Driving car in rainy day and so long made me so bored and depressed...

On the way to 網走 there were a few sightseeing spots.紋別(Monbetu) is the famous place where has drift ice in winter and manmy people come here to watch it.

【In 網走(Abashiri)】

I was going to sleep in my car like yesterday, but it was very cold outside(maybe the temparture was 3~5 degrees) so I stayed in hotel.

I went to some place in 網走.網走 has the most famous prison what is called 網走刑務所.A long time ago 網走刑務所 was the most terrible and cruelest one in Japan. Its conditon was very poor and humble especially when winter comes,it seems that many prisoners froze to death.

Now that it becomes one of sightseeing spots in Hokkaido,so we can see its history.I was so impressed with it.
