What is the different between "im Stadtpark" and "auf dem Stadtpark"?

Well, I don't know what you mean with "auf dem Stadtpark". This is an expression that you normally would not use except for saying that you are going to a party or a festival which takes place at the park. A sentence like that would be: "Ich bin auf dem Stadtpark-Fest!".
If you are saying that you are just going through the park, you will say: "Ich bin im Stadtpark", resp.: "Ich gehe durch den Stadtpark."

Well, that would be right, better than "auf dem Stadtpark".
If you are walking through the park, saying that you are in it, you will say: "Ich bin im Stadtpark."
If you are near to this park, you will say: "Ich bin am Stadtpark."
