★ I thought I had wanted to marry her.

I think the sentence above is impossible.

In Japanese, most English teacher teach the rule that

If the verb in a main clause is transformed to past tense, the verb in a subordinate clause is transformed like below.

(a) If it is present tense, it is transformed to past tense.
(b) If it is past tense, it is transformed to p.p tense.

For example

(1) I think he is a teacher.

If the verb 'think' is transformed to past tense 'thought', the verb 'is' is transformed in the same way.

And

(2) I think he was a teacher.

If the verb 'think' is transformed to past tense 'thought', the verb 'was' is transformed to p.p tense.

But, Is the sentence (★I thought I had wanted to marry her) incorrect?

If it is correct, please tell me the situation we would say it.
