kazoo : I Bought a Handmade Watch (5)

Today, I bought a handmade watch.
The shop sells accesories for woman.
I have been interested in watches of the shop when I caught a glimpse of them.
I like mechineres and old items of 19th century.
They was so that.
First I hesitated to buy them because they were expensive a little and looked like fragile.
But so I got some money of my patent (very few) and the autum season forced me to buy them on impulse, I bought one of them.
The watch is mechanical type so it sounds "tick, tick, tick, tick".
And so it is skeleton, we can see gears moving.
It's so lovely.
I hope the watch will move a hundred year more. (like the grand father's clock....)
(I heard that the shop can be fixed if it breaks.
Because the shop is making itself.)

I took a day off some days separately, instead of the summer vacations which I couldn't take in this summer.
Today is one of them and I went to the Italian restaurant with my wife for a lunch.
The 'Rigoletto' is the name of this restaurant.
First, I misheard it as 'regret'
My wife has been here with 'Mamatomo';'ママ友'; which means friends of mothers who have same age children.
And she came to like this restaurant, so she introduced it to me.
The restaurant was very chic and elegant.
And I thought the payment was reasonable. it was ¥2300-.
(two cups of coffee, pasta, pizza, two small salads, two cups of soup and two small glasses of wine)
Of course I didn't regret! It was delicious.♪( ´▽｀)

I was working on repairing my computers on my own.
As a result, I achieved it. Repairing was success and its cost was $7.
Now that I can't believe it had broken for a year.
That one small step for mankind, one giant leap for a man.

I went to Akihabara to get condensers for repairing my computer.
I have come Akihabara area several times but I felt there amaze and mysterious each time.
If you go there, you can get all kind of electric parts.
And also you can get the rare Japanese anime goods and games.
And you'll meet young girls who are the housemaid style and call you "my Master".
I want to go the maid's cafe at once but I haven't go yet.
If I have foreigner friends come to Japan, I want to hear impressions of Akihabara.
If they like the Japanese anime, they will be glad, but if not so they may be angry.

I'll go back to the topic abut getting parts for repairing the computer.

When I arrived the electronic parts shop, a young lady looked after the shop.
Usually there are a elderly man who looks like the expert of electric parts.
So I was disappointed since I want him to choose best condensers.
But I was surprised because she knew well about electric parts.
When I showed the condensers brought from the broken computers and I said "I want to high quality condensers than them", she took glance at them and she said " I can offer condensers you want. But those are little taller than these. Is it ok?",and then she selected condensers and acted smart.
As a result, I bought three condensers which were made in Japan and high withstand voltage than them of the broken computers.
Total sum is ¥550 about $7.
I thought she might the owner's daughter of this shop.
She was a beautiful expert of the electric parts.
There were many type people in Akihabara.
My computer had been broken since one year ago.
I want to fixed it but It's too expensive to repair.
My computer type is composed one with TV and computer.
So the transfer cost is expensive too, since its body is big.
I did nothing for a year and I couldn't throw it away.
But today I decided to repair it by myself.
I found the way of the repair my computer on internet.
They said the computers which were made by F-maker about 2005-2006 have low quality condensers at its power unit.
In many cases these condenser break.
If it is right, I can fixed my computer by $3-5.
I asked F-maker change the power unit by free or low price.
The company refuse it because the free repair guaranty period already finished. Six years passed since I bought it.
They said I need to pay about $500-1000 for repair.
So I decided to challenged to repair it by myself.
I hope I get it.

I wrote that I went to Nagano last weekends in other journal.
I'll post pictures which I took when I went to The Utsukushigahara Highlands in Nagano.
When I visited The Utsukushigahara Open-Air Museum, the sky was just changing from summer to autumn.
So There were many kinds of the clouds in the sky.
I came up with the idea to play with the clouds, the sculptures, light and shadow.
As result, I was able to take good pictures beyond my expectations.
Needless to say, it was depended on the good sculptures and the good sky.
I think another factor of success was using the IPad.
When I took a picture, I watched the object through the IPad.
It looked like as same as a magazine.
It made the pictures composed well.
And new IPad had the high performance camera.
When I bought, that factor was not important.
But that point is good now.
Steve Jobs was great!
He said he run a company to make good items.
That's it!

When I did,the museum was holding the contest of photos which took with the sculptures.
So I applyed for it.
I'm dreaming that I deserve praise.

http://oam-ricoh-photofesta.net/

We decided to attack Tengu Dake; '天狗岳' of the mountain.
At first, I was afraid that I couldn't climb there because of lack of exercise.
But I made up my mind to challenge that by my friend's recommendations.
Tengu Dake is a part of Kita-Yatsugatake and is loved by the lovers of climbing mountains.
The hight of the mountain is 2646m.
We set out from the Karasawa Kousen at am 6:00.
(The Karasawa Kousen is the inn of the hot spring.)
We arrived the top of the mountain at am 10:30.
We came back the Karasawa Kousen at pm 14:30
The process of the ascent was easy and comfortable because of climbing slowly and watching landscapes.
But the path of the descent was very hard for me due to lack of exercise.
I was very tired but enjoyed it.
I posted pictures and a video I took. If you like, please look at them.
I'm happy if you would feel the atmosphere of the mountain for them.

Birdsongs at mountainside of The Tengu Dake.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sl7nEH9_T4g&feature=player_detailpage

Afternoon, we set out for the 'Utsukushigahara highlands': '美ヶ原高原'.
I wouldn't say with my full confidence but I try to explain that 'Utsukushigahara' means beautiful field or beautiful wilderness.
We went to the Utsukushigahara highlands by the venus line which is the name of the toll road through the mountains region of Nagano.
There were many good landscapes in the venus line.
Especially the view of the Kirigamine mountain was as good as Utsukushigahara highlands which is our destination.
When we arrived there, a sailplane was flying in the sky.
And there was Mt. Fuji among clouds over the sky.
It was so beautiful.
Our today's lunch was the 'Unajyu' which was the grilled eel rice.
This taste was the soy sauce flavor and was very good.
The eel is said it has good nutrition to prevent us from the summer weariness.
We also ate the heart of the eel too.
Since the eels become rare, Our lunch were so expensive. It was about $800.
The Japanese restaurant in which we ate that is near the Suwa Lake side in the Nagano.
After that, I went to my friend's old house which his grand father had lived in.
I'm stay there now. We can see the beautiful sky with many stars there.

I went to the Japanese-American Friendship Festival at the Yokota Air Base of the U.S. Air Force with my son.
We looked at from small to big aircrafts.
Especially, the F22 and the F16 fighters were so cool.
Actually, the real fighters looked more powerful and stronger than I thought.
I wanted to watch planes but also I wanted to speak English there.
But I couldn't speak English well.
I spoke English, only below.
"Two water, please."
"Thank you."
"Gatorade, please."
"Can I use dollars?"
"Good bye"
I didn't have brave to speak to pilots.
My son froze when a soldier of the gate told him jokes.
I and my son were very shay.
I would prepare what I want to speak beforehand at next time.

Today, I'll introduce my new item in this summer.
It's a cushion with a fan.
I found it when I went to the large shopping store near my house with my family.
I didn't expect to itbecause a large lot remained in spite of discount selling.
Their price was low. It's about $35.
The national brand batteries:'eneloops' and its charger are added with it.
Usually, the batteries and the charger are sold by about $20.
So I thought If a cushion wouldn't work well, It didn't let me down due to the price.
But the cushion is good for me.
The cushion works well in practice.
I feel so good because it keeps the seat of the chair cool by wind.
It runs for 15 hours by one charging.
So if I use 3 hours per day, It works for 5 days without charging.
A cushion has the switch under hips, so It turns off when I stand up. It's very green.
Regrettably, their color is only black and its design doesn't look like fashionable, so I think it is hard to sell many for female.

Last weekend, I went to a museum to see a painting called as 'Girl with a Pearl Earring', which is one of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer's masterworks.
Some of the paintings of The Mauritshuis Museum are in Japan now.
Vermeer is one of my favorite painters as same as Rembrandt.
Vermmer's paintings impress us the bright blue.
It's called 'Vermmer's blue'
This blue comes from the color of the ultramarine, which is made from the lapis lazuli.
The ultramarine is named after 'over the mediterranean' ,the lapis lazuli came over there.
The blue of the turban was fascinating and the drawing of her lips were very good too.
It's good to go to a museum once in a while to appreciate art.
The knowledge, which I was learning when I was a child, came to be behind the times. We need to learn anytime.

When I was childhood, I heard that the life origin comes from seas.
I was taught that organic materials, which were elements of the living matter, can be made from ingredients of primitive sea in the flasks with adding sparks of electricity.
But the new idea is really in now. That is the life origin coming from the space.

The first important evidence is the organic material was found at a tail of a comet.
NASA launched a satellite to track a comet and then found the organic material as called 'guanine' at a tail of a comet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z6fs5LvfIo&feature=player_detailpage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBXh1cvIwxI&feature=player_detailpage

http://stardust.jpl.nasa.gov/home/index.html

The next important evidence is a fact that star dusts reach the earth without burning out like shooting stars.
This is being confirmed by Dr.Michael Zolensky of NASA's Cosmic Dust Laboratory.
He is collecting dusts at high-altitude by a aircraft in the meteor shower period and researching them.

http://www.stripes.com/news/flying-out-of-mildenhall-nasa-aircraft-pulls-in-cosmic-dust-for-research-1.40483

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z34ibHloXE&feature=player_detailpage

In result, they contain high concentrations of sulfur like that aren't finding on the earth.
And then those have common features; those sizes are smaller than 0.01mm and the shapes are such as cottons
Because of those features, they are softly caught by atmosphere and slowly fall to the earth.
When we wish upon a star, the life elements are falling to the earth.
Japanese have liked cherry blossoms since ancient times.
Sometimes, that helps to investigations of modern science.
Mr.Yasuyuki Aono, who is a associate professor at Osaka Prefecture University, researched topics of cherry blossoms on old diaries which were written by people had lived in Kyoto. 1)2)
Its purpose is to know the historical temperature variation through centuries.
Old diaries and chronicles were often written about full flowerings of cherry blossoms had been observed.
A date of full flowerings approximately depends on temperature of the spring of that year.
So we can expect to know ancient climate by collecting those date.
I tried to make a graph with Aono's data. 1)2)
Please look at the left picture on this post.
This is the mean temperatures in April in Kyoto city from 1600 to 2000 years.
There are two parts I have to explain.
The part 'A' is recent years(AC1880-2000).
Pink dots are observed temperatures.
Light blue dots are reconstructed temperatures with date of full flowerings of cherry blossoms.
Those data match good.
The part 'B' is slightly lower temperature than other parts.
We can find the interesting fact by comparing this part with other data which are Sunspot Numbers.
I was plotting Sunspot Numbers over old reconstructed temperatures with cherry blossoms, that is the center picture on this post. 3)4)
This graph makes us recognized there was a possibility to keep low temperature when Sunspot Numbers was zero, which is called as 'Maunder Minimum'

----referring data and websites are as follows.-----
1)Yasuyuki AONO and Keiko KAZUI, 2008:
Phenological data series of cherry tree flowering in Kyoto, Japan, and its application
to reconstruction of springtime temperatures since the 9th century.
International Journal of Climatology, 28, 905-914 (DOI: 10.1002/joc1594).

2)referring web site.
http://www.envi.osakafu-u.ac.jp/atmenv/aono/KyoPhenoTemp4.html

3)Data by Hoyt & Schatten (1997).

4)referring web site.
http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/stp/solar/ssndata.html

kazoo : 古今和歌集(kokin wakashu) The old Japanese poems (5)

Continue from last week,I'll write a topic of Kanji and Hiragana.
It isn't so funny topic, so nobody has given me comments for last week post.
I was bad but if giving me comments,I'm so happy.
(Not to say that please correct ,because I think you will be tired.)

'Hiragana' of Japanese character is one of the revolution in ancient Japan.
In early Heian era(AC 794～901), Japanese intellectual class respected Chinese culture.
They Introduced Chinese governance system ,urban planning and other various thing of China.
Also the language is not exception. From Japanese law to court noble's diary, those were only written by Chinese character:'Kanji'.
But old Chinese empire:'唐' was began to decline.
Chinese governance system became hardly to run.
As result, two groups began a factional dispute.
One group's reader was 'Sugawara Michizane’ who respected Chinese culture.
Another group's reader was 'Sugawara Tokihira' who looked up to own Japanese culture.
Tokihira was this factional dispute winner and Michizane was relegated to Dazaifu in Kyushu(AC 901) and then died(AC 903).
Tokihira needed to make bureaucrats understand new era.
So he edited poems using Hiragana by official government business.
Hiragana are Japanese original characters which was made from transforming Kanji.
(If you want to know detail about Hiragana ,see lastest my post.)
This poems is '古今和歌集':kokin wakashu.(AC 905)
People knew how to use Hiragana by it and they found that new era came.
There is a love poem in kokin wakashu.
This poem was written by Ono no Komachi, people said she was smart and so beautiful.
｢うたた寝に恋しき人見てしより　夢てふものは頼みそめてき｣　by 小野　小町
She wrote "Since I caught a glimpse of lovely him in the dream at napping. I have hoped and have relied on a dream which is fleeting."
No one knows the man whom she longed for a thousand years ago.
"Image courtesy of Tokyo National Museum".
http://www.tnm.jp/

I'm thinking about '歩く' which is a Japanese verb. It means to walk in English.

I think Japanese language has two sides.

One side is that Japanese language have been influenced from China.
Ancient Japanese people imported Chinese characters 'Kanji' and used those.

Another side is that a old Japanese language had existed before Chinese characters came to Japan.
Old Japanese language was originally unrelated to Chinese and it had own grammar and own pronunciations.
As a result, Japanese language came to have two different elements.
I think this is one of reason to confuse those who are learning Japanese.

Chinese characters 'Kanji' are well known that a part of these are Hieroglyph.
For example '歩'
The character shows that a right foot and a left foot move alternately like walking off.
(See a figure on my diary ,or search '歩'at the following web)
http://www.kanjinetworks.com/index.cfm

This Kanji has two kind pronunciations.
One is Chinese pronunciations which are "ho"[ほ], "bu"[ぶ]and "fu"[ふ].
Another one is Japanese　pronunciations which are "aru(ku)"[ある(く)] and "ayu(mu)" [あゆ(む)]
The sound of ( ) is not included in Kanji.

Ancient Japanese assigned a Kanji to a same meaning old Japanese words.
As for as a verb is concerned, they assigned a Kanji to a part of fixed pronunciations at
the head of the words.
And they assigned a 'Kana' to a part of a variable pronunciations at the tail of words.
A Kana was made from a deformed kanji to pick up same sound.
After Kana became 'Hiragana' and then Japanese people keep it now.
below web shows
(The below web shows process how Hiragana and Katakana were made from Kanji.)
http://www.ugoky.com/hiragana/hiragana_ugoky.swf

In Japanese, '歩く' changing pattans are as follow.

Informal Present------------[aru+ku]--------------[歩+く]
(Dictionary Form)

Formal Present--------------[aru+kimasu]----------[歩+きます]
(~ masu Form)
Informal Past---------------[aru+ita]-------------[歩+いた]
(~ ta Form)

Formal Past-----------------[aru+kimashita]-------[歩+きました]
Informal Negative-----------[aru+kanai]-----------[歩+かない]
(~ nai Form)

Formal Negative-------------[aru+kimasen]---------[歩+きません]

Informal Past Negative------[aru+kanakatta]-------[歩+かなかった]

Formal Past Negative--------[aru+kimasen deshita]-[歩+きませんでした]

~ te Form-------------------[aru+ite]-------------[歩+いて]

Conditional-----------------[aru+keba]------------[歩+けば]

Volitional------------------[aru+kou]-------------[歩+こう]

Passive.--------------------[aru+kareru]----------[歩+かれる]

Causative-------------------[aru+kaseru]----------[歩+かせる]

Potential-------------------[aru+keru]------------[歩+ける]

Imperative------------------[aru+ke]--------------[歩+け]
(Command)

One of the characteristics of the Japanese language is that the verb generally comes at the end of the sentence.
Since Japanese's sentences often omit the subject, the verb is probably the most important part in understanding the sentence.
This characteristics is different from Chinese Language.
It is specific of Japanese Language.

Japanese verbs are roughly divided into three groups according to their dictionary form (basic form).
Anyway I think It's necessary to memorize this rules.

For details, please look that web
http://japanese.about.com/od/grammarlessons/a/031101a

"Japanese Verb Conjugations"
"All About Verbs (1) -Japanese Verb Groups"

Thank you for reading my diary.

I went to the exclusive brazilian restaurant near the Omotesando station last Wednesday.
I met old friends since junior high school there.
The restaurant name is 'BARBACOA Grill'
It was such a popular restaurant that we made a reservation a month ago.
I had been looking forward to what foods I can eat at the brazilian restaurant.
I could eat brazilian foods which was called as 'churrasco' there.
Churrasco is grilled meat.
The restaurant served it with many offering as much as we can eat.
Waiters moved around the restaurant with the skewers and sliced meat onto our plate.
I didn't refuse many offering, so I became completely full by 20 minutes from starting dinner without talking my friends.
Churrasco was good but my dinner finished too fast.
Next time,I want to enjoy dinner of Churrasco slowly.

Taishouken "大勝軒" is the noodle restaurant which is well known by ramen lovers.
There is the Taishoken near the Eifukucho station of Inokashira-Line in Tokyo.
The soup is delicious because it's made with ten kinds dried baby sardines, soy sauce blended three brands, pork bones and nine secret materials.
The owner-chef;Kenji Kusamura is 84 years old.
But he runs the restaurant and makes the ramen at present.
The restaurant is small, which has only 23 seats but the sales is twelve thousand dollars daily.
He has kept running the restaurant for 57 years.
That reason is the changing taste, he says.
That is the battle with customer's sense of taste, he says too.
He changes the taste of his ramen 5-6 times by a year.
Because he keeps the delicious surprise of customer.
The volume of his ramen is twice larger than other restaurant.
But my son and I completed it.
If you come to Japan, try it!

Do you know "Taiyaki"?
This is the Japanese popular confections.
The dough is shaped to fish and baked like crepe.
And sweet bean paste "Anko" inside it.
"Taiyaki" has a delicate sweetness that dissolves in the mouth.
And the fish shape of "Taiyaki" pleases the eye as much as palate.
The traditional paste is sweet bean.
But there is a wide variety of paste flavors now─custard cream , chocolate, "Sakura-mochi", and so on.
And now there is also many kinds of its shape .
When I went to Akihabara,I saw "Gandumyaki"which are shaped like the robot"
It was sold by the store next to the "AKB cafe" near the akihabara station.

When I told my wife to post this topic of "Tai-yaki",She said "We have a "Tai-yaki"maker"
Oh I forgot it!
Next time,I'm going to introduce how to make "Taiyaki"

Today, It's raining in Tokyo.
So I'd like to post my pictures taking a walk last week end.
I and my son went for a walk near the park, because I could recover from my cold.
There were a lot of cherry blossoms to bloom everywhere.
I was going to go around with my son,but we parted there.
Because he want to go to his hideout which he made the day before.
When I arrived to the "Inokashira Benten" temple,"Hana-matsuri" had been taking place.
It was the ritual"pouring sweet tea over the statue of Buddha" for celebrating Buddha's birthday.
While pouring sweet tea over Buddha,I prayed for the peace of the world and my family's happiness.
After I went around the park,I met my son.
He looked disappointed because his hideout was broken.
I thought a great deal of people was here so it was done.
On the way home,I told him "make it again".

"Sakura" Cherry blossoms may fall because Today's rain.
I can see them next spring again.

I have caught a cold infected from my son since four days ago.
Other hand,my wife didn't that,in spite of caring for him.
I thought "Mother is strong."
The cold embarassing me is "the flu"
I was fever so hard. But that period was very short for a new drug.
This new drug is called "Inavir(R)" .
When I knew Tamiflu and Relenza ,I didn't think new influenza drug appear.
Because it is revolutionary to prevent from the virus increasing directly.
But Inavir's superior point is only one time to take.
Others have to be took as several times.
So its total cost can be lower than others by reducing package and stock expense.
I think that the drug company's race is so hard too.
But,even though the cost is lower for company, that payment is expensive for me.
This time, I paid two thousand yen for it.
When converted to U.S. dollars,it's about $24.
If I hadn't caught a cold ,I would have delicious steak.

Thank you for reading my diary and please correct my English.

(posted pictures:the influenza virus and the structure of "Inavir(R)" )
