Georgian debtors- An American story

My state (colony) of Georgia was built by George Oglethorpe around 1730. The colony was set up as a buffer to the colony of Carolina. It was to keep the violent Indians whom occupied Georgia from launching raids on towns like Charles Town and what was later Columbia.
King George the 2nd (I think), could not find enough decent citizens to go and establish the colony. they did not want to send some of th low rungs of scoiety at first but they could not find enough citizens. So the King listend to an advisor that said we could send our debtors there and not have to care for them anymore and it will rid Great Britiain of its lower class somewhat.
The idea stuck with the king and he decided it was genius. Debtors could ocm eto the colony and workl their debt off. The goods that they sent back will go to English bankers who owned their debt. The debtros would get a peice of land afterwards and they could become reali productive citizens! This is the talk that wne in front of parliment, but in a later discussion King Geroge reveals that he just wanted to rid England of its poor class.
The debtors turned out to work very hard. Many of them settled in Savannah, but a lot came to my city of Augusta Georgia when it was established 2 years later.
Needless to say the city was very wild and the first city law was "No firing a firearm in the middle of the street". You could still fire your weapon on the river, on dirt roads and in your yard, but we cannot have it in the middle of the street. This speaks to the freedom these people enjoyed. There was no body trying to tell them how to live their lives and they only had the most basic laws to make sure rights of 2 men do not violate each other.
Most of the debtors payed off their debt, Oglethorpe made sure of that and these people breed and reproduced and spread through Georgia. Its crazy to think that this state, which has a economy itself of 400 billion dollars, came from some debtors in England. This shows that America is truly exceptional and is why I love my country and state!
We came from Great Britain , whom is now our #1 ally (Japan is #2) and now the state of Georgia is 1/5th of the UK now. We would be the worlds 27th largest economy if we stood as a single country, and America still has 49 other states.
I hope you guys take pride in your country also, Japan has a ton of interesting history also.
-Thanks, Mike.
Some of my ancestors were some of the first white people living west of the Savannah River! I regret that they took Indians land and my ancestors fought the Indians ferociously. The Indian killed and scalped a great great great great great great great great great great (9 greats) uncle of mine. My 9th great Grandfather went and supposedly murdered the whole Indian village and that was the end of Indian-White fighting in the area. I am glad to say that somehow they reached a peace agreement and Indians married into my family after this.
