How are you? Guys.

Today, I would like to talk about my recent life in US.

I have been in American for two months, and I start to get involved in this new environment. I discuss my homework with other students in the class, we study together for the exams, and I always go hang out with my roommates. Moreover, I join an international friendship program which give me an great opportunity to know some local people and go out with them for at least once a month, and tomorrow, I am going to invite my friend to have a walk around my campus.

Since Houston is a place which white people does not make up the majority of the population and plus my school accepts international students from all over the world, the campus is a very diversity place. I have friends who are American(White, Black, Hispanic), Mexican, Vietnamese, Serbian, Irani，and I know people from Brazil, Turkey, and France. I really enjoy this diversity and I am happy that I made a right decision to go to this school.

This school also provide students with opportunities to go aboard again, to spend a semester learning hotel in other counties, like Australia, China-Hongkong, Peru, France and Mexico. I am planning to apply for this program and collecting information about it so I can decide which city to go.

After I go back to china during the summer vacation, I want to learn how to drive so that after I return to Houston, I will be able to find a job outside the campus and start to work, not only earn a little money to support my own life but also I will take this as an precious chance to gain working experience.

As an international students, I spend most of my time now on my study in order to achieve a good GPA ( Grade Point Average). This can help me when I plan to go to graduate school and also can help me win scholarships and job opportunities. Thus, these days I go to my bed very late.

How is your day? Have not been here so long... I miss you guys... Tell me something about your life!

(A talk I had with a Swiss boy who came to Shanghai to see his little sister who is now working with me in the same hotel. For years, I dress causally without a make-up, taking a back-pag instead of a hand-bag. But his word seems to be right. For me, luxuries is like a spell, and I just don’t want myself to be controlled by it.)

It has been very busy these day thus I could not have any time to go to this website.

Sorry for any late reply or unreplied mails....

I am now working on my Personal Statements and acculmulating other required materials at the meanwhile as my finishing step to close my applying process...
(Actually I think it just started..)

Each school is very different so a great amount of work need to be done very soon, and considering the internship now I am having which takes me more than 10 hours a day, I am really running out of time...

I will be back at around October or November.

Then I will share some stories happened in the hotel that I am now working at.

事情过去已经一年了。
时间很快。


虽然我常感叹道时间的飞速，但同时又感到时间的缓慢。
这一年的时间了，我考了三场考试，把自己学校成绩的均分提高到了86分，并在一家很不错的酒店得到了实习的机会。
现在，我正在申请美国的学校，也许明年年初，我便可以去那里读书了。


这些都是我曾经没有想象过的，也是我凭着自己的努力得到的。
很不可思议，我竟然可以拥有这些。
于是，就像往常一样，我感谢上帝对我一直以来的眷顾，我是如此的幸运。
所以最近，我买了一条十字架的项链，作为自己的礼物。


总体来说，我过得很好。
可以做自己想要做的事，我非常开心。


比起一年之前，我长大了很多，确立了新的人生目标，交了很多新朋友。
一切都在往好的方向，对的方向发展。


很感谢你当初选择离开我，丢下我一人。
好让我有机会变得坚强，勇敢，独立，成为现在这个让我更满意的自己。

I found that there are too many people who can speak English well..
Even these fat, rude, impolite governors....

We have a manager who is a Germany, and his position is at the reception desk.
Yesterday, a governors got angry with one of our nice receptionist boy, and then, that manager came out and wanted to solve the problem... then..., the governor started to use English to shout at our manager..................

Poor manager...

Well.. Surprisingly, that angry man's English is good, and almost without accent..

That made me think that.., only knowing English is not enough. I should learn something else!!!!! Master some other languages soon!!!!!!! SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The staff canteen is actually a buffet.

Only for the drinks, you got more than 10 choices! Including, milk tea, Sprit, Pepsi Cola, Coffee, Soymilk, tea and so.

Usually, I can have 3 types of main food, noodle with soup, rice, and Chinese porridge (sometimes Italian chiffeir rigati)
Then, the canteen provides 4 different dishes, and at least 3 of them contain meat.
By the way, the fish meat there are already bone-freed, and it tasted really tender.
Sometimes, I can find crabs there (a kind of food that normal families rarely have on tables...) and the soup really got seafood in it.....

Luxury....

That's really unbelievable.
When I first saw bags of raw chiffeir rigati stacking on the iron shelves, I thought they were all for customers. Maybe it is too crowded in the kitchen, so they just put them in the staff canteen.

However, when I saw them cooked with tomato source serving in big plate during the noon time...I knew this hotel is crazy...


Plus, I can find salad, deserts, bread, fruits, ice cream; and everything has no limitation, you can take whatever you want.........


God, and it is free for staff...


But, still, many old staff are not satisfied with this wonderful canteen.
They are spoiled.

I got a job offer today! FINANLLY!!!

I can work as a welcome ambassador at a local five-star hotel, the Shangri-la hotel, as a part of my internship program.

I have continuously contacting with the guest manager for 3 months, and went there for 3 times, and had 3 interviews with 3 different managers.

Having a good opportunity really need great effort!

I remembered last time I made one of the managers angry, and I thought I could not have any chance to go there again.
However, with today's successful interview, the only thing left for me to do is to provide the HR department with some of my files and records and then take the orientation.

Great!

It's located in the best business area in Shanghai, with other 4 five-star hotels surrounded. It's really near to the highest building of Shanghai, the Shanghai World Financial Center, thousands of people walk by everyday!
(P.S. This hotel is also the place where the China basketball star -Yao Ming, get married)

Hotels are good! It's a kind of integrated item providing both products and services, also it's well segmented, with a very clear target customer groups. Especially for these first-class hotels, busy business people go there everyday, it might be the only place where you can see so many elites gathered.

I love this industry because it gives me a great chance to observe people, to know them.
To see how people behave, how they talk, how they sit, what they want, and find the right way to make them satisfied!
Dealing with people is a ART!
Also, it is a skill which can benefit myself.

and, now, I have a chance to practice. ^^

I want to find a way to improve my English!

I found myself can't explain what I want to say very clearly, especially, something related to emotion.

I have been watching American TV series for years, and listening to English music since 5 years ago, but still I think it is not enough for me.

I would like to learn some slang, and read some books.
I want to start from something easy, easy for me to understand.
Magazines that I like including the ‘National Geography’, and the ‘Reader's Digest’. However, sometimes, I can’t understand all the articles in the “National Geography”.

Please recommend me some books! And also the singer that you like!

There are various kinds of snacks in Shanghai, and I am going to introduce some of them.^^

1)小笼包(xiao3long2bao1)---> First picture
I believe many people know this.
It is very similar to Baozi, but the skin of it is very thin, and can be tore easily. Also, its taste is better than Baozi.
A good place to eat this kind of snack is the Guyi Garden(古猗园). Guyi Garden is a quant old garden built around 1522, additionally, it is one of the five oldest garden in Shanghai.

2)生煎馒头 Pan-Fried Bun Stuffed with Pork（shēngjiān mántóu）---> Second picture
Shengjian Mantou is not Mantou, and it is a little bit different from Xiaolong Bao.
A well know shop for making pan-fried buns stuffed with pork is XiaoYang Shengjian.
It has many chain stores in Shanghai; one is located in a Shopping mall near the Tianzi Fang (A creative center with a lot of artistic works).
I am a big fan of this snack, and I will take some home every time when I walk pass this little snack shop ><

3)粽子 Rice dumpling （zòng zi）---> Third picture
Rice dumpling is a kind of traditional food of China.(Not Korea's)
It is first made to honor a Chinese famous poet, whose name is Quyuan. (Not a Korean)
Quyuan is an official in feudal times. He wrote great articles, and he cared about his people and country. Though he was very loyal to his emperor, the emperor did not trust him. Qu was expelled from his country, and then he jumped into a river to end him self’s life.
However, his people loved him, and they don't want the fish in that river to eat his body, so people made rice dumplings and dropped them into the river, hoping fish could eat rice dumplings instead of eating his body. Also, they rowed dragon boats to scare fish away in order to protect it.
That's the origin of Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese festival, and we eat rice dumplings in that day to honor Quyuan.
Honestly, you can find rice dumplings in any traditional food shop, but the quality is not so good, thus I recommend you to go to Qibao (七宝)to eat it. Qibao is a ancient town, many people go there everyday, and it is said that some shops there are very good at making rice dumplings.
By the day, if you have some Chinese friend whose family members can make rice dumplings by themselves, it's good to visit them during the Dragon Boat Festival. ^^

YEAH!!! All the examinations now are finished and the summer holiday is coming!

Today, my teacher told me about my scores during the class time, and I achieved quite high for every subjects. So, well, I can bring my GPA to a whole new level!!!
Just as I planned!!
That means, it is a step closer to the Penn State ><
(and I hope it can reach 3.5 when the time I send out my transcript)


This afternoon, I wrote an E-mail to PSU admission office to ask some questions.
It was the first time that I used "Dear Audrey" to call the lady who helped me before. Normally, I just start writing with "Dear Sir/Madam", but since it was she who always helps me, so I decided to use her name to start the E-mail.

And she replied me in 3 HOURS!!!
Amazing!!!!!!
For every E-mail I sent before, I need to wait for at least 3 work days.
So, today I am super lucky ^^

And I really need to say something good about PSU.
Their staffs in the admission office are so nice people, answer your questions so patiently, and also give encouragements.
I have a even stronger belongingness to that school!! (Don't know whether this expression is right @@）


After I finished my dinner, I watched several episodes of the "Fringe", one of my favorite American TV series. ^^
It is said that the 5th season will be the final season, and I am looking forward to know how everything is going to end up together.

Additionally, I watched a episode of a super cute cartoon, "the Adventure Time".
I first saw it on the CN channel while I was traveling in Swiss, and I just fell in love with it ><



Today is a super happy day!!!

I, checked my TOEFL socre this afternoon!!! And that, turned out to be a good one!!!! A SUPER BIG SUPERISE WHICH IS UNEXPECTED!!!!!!

I get 100 out of 120.
And 100 is generally accepted as a high score in Toefl test, also, it is the minimum score required by TOP 20 universities in American for enrollment.

I am so lucky, though just as I predicted, my Listening is not so good.

And, oh, definitely I should thank everyone here!
My writing, which is my weakest part in the past, achieved 27(out of 30)this time!

Till now, everything is good, but, usually, things always has a "but"...

My friend (who now studying in the Rice) told me that the school which I want to go, Penn State University is the biggest party school.. and I shouldn't go there..

And,,,and!!! Then I found that the only school left on my list which fit all what I want is...
THE CORNELL....

It's in America
It offers a major of hospitality management
It ranks high on the general ranking
It ranks high on the major ranking
It has a big campus
AND, it is in NEW YORK, where is very close to Philadelphia...a place that I want to go...

It's so perfect...



But how can I get in!!!!?????





After hours of struggling, I figured out what this means to me.


That means I can't go to America, and I should seriously consider Swiss.
Maybe the schools there are more suitable for me.....


(sigh)


It's pushing me over the edge...
