I mean "cheek kissing."

After kissing, many anime girls say "I-it's not like I love you or anything! It's just a greeting in America!" But it's not common in America, according to Wikipedia(poor source of information? LOL).

Anyways, in Japan, even cheek kissing is kinda romantic, especially for young boys and girls, and this fact may affect anime.
In some anime, you will see quite sweety cheek kissing(or usual one) at the end of the story. If kissing is common and usual custom, those scenes would lose its distinctive taste.

Cheek kissing is never a greeting in America. One could go so far as to say it would be met with anger and hostility (haha). In America, only family members will kiss each other on the cheek, usually only small children though. --- It is, however, a greeting in France and maybe Italy/Greece?. Although I'm not sure how popular it is these days.

What...? Are you an American? Did I offend you somehow? Let me tell you how many times I've seen someone... anyone.. anywhere at anytime in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Delaware, Connecticut, Florida, or California, kiss someone on the cheek as a greeting. Maybe once? Go up to someone in an American school and kiss them on the cheek as a greeting. You'll end up getting get punched. If you're talking about girls kissing boys on the cheeks as greetings... maybe if they are in a relationship. In which case its 90% more likely to be on the lips because public affection isn't frowned upon here. What state are you in?

Actually, it is common among younger women to kiss their female friends on the cheek. It's more of a cheek to cheek thing while making a kissing noise. Not only have I seen it a lot, I have also done it. It is an affectionate greeting.

    I find it more common among Europeans and also, it depends on where you're from, whether you kiss the left side first or the right side, and whether you kiss just 1 or 2 sides!

    Eh but then again, that kind of greeting kiss does not really involve the lips touching the other party's face at all.

    You can go to Indonesia from Singapore fairly cheaply; take a short trip there on a budget airline and see if you like the place?
