young : My mom (0)

My mom has worked for Puchon city for almost 30 years.
She has been doing her best as a working mom.
When I was a little kid, I didn't like that my mom wasn't at home all the time.
Now as I'm grown up, I got to uderstand how she live a tough life, and I'm gratefull for her.
Nowadays she has been going through her menopause.
Somtimes she become upset easilly, but she's still funny and full of energy.
One day she asked me to take a ride to Korea University.
She said that there is a TV show, that is a kind of 아줌마, Korean married women version of American Idol, and she registered the show, so she has to go for taking part in the audition.
I couldn't believe that she tried to be on a TV show, beacause she can't sing well.
She said "I feel like my life has been boring, so I want to have a little fun for a better life."
I took her to the audition, and she had waited for over six hours untill she went to the judges and sing, but she was not even on the show.
Recently, she asked me send messages with English words or sentences to learn English, so I sent some English sentences. And then she sent back a message. It said "Who do you think I am. I'm not a elementary school student or something."
I'm thinking about what English words or sentences do I send her.
I would be appreciated, if you could give me some proper English words or sentences for her.

Mom It's worse than saying you're not my mother."
After that I was been on several blind dates.
The guys from the match making company acted like same person.
I mean they kept asking same questions, they talked about same things.
It was very awkward, uncomfortable and even boring.
Finally, I ended up not going out with anyone.
There are a lot of guys, but don't try to meet anyone.
I think I should be very careful when somone set me up on a date.

A few days ago, when I was in a shopping mall, I saw a guy looking for a direction.
He was looking at a map of the mall.
Actually, the mall is famous because the building is like a maze.
I had been there several times, but I still don't know how to get to the store I want to go.
Anyway, I approached him and asked if there is anything I can help him with.
He said that he is looking for a bank to exchange his money.
It was almost six PM, so I said It's closed, but if he need I'll take him the bank.
While going to the bank, we made a conversation.
He said that he is from Mauritius and he is a doctor, he is visiting Korea to take part in a conference.
We exchaned email address and said goodbye.
I just got a thank-you letter from him for showing him the way.
I rarely have talked to foreigners in Korea, because of my bad English.
I'll just try to help foreigners although I would be embarrassed due to my bad English.

young : A Dayoff (2)

Last Wednesday was memorial day, so I took a dayoff.
I hung out with my friends.
We watched movie called MIB3.
The movie was not my type, because, As you know, the story is about aliens and I thought that some of scenes were disgusting.
We had lunch together after watching movie.
There were four people. two guys and two girls.
One of us is a very naive and innocent 19 years old girl.
And one of us is a 35 years old guy, unemployed and single.
He is preparing for becoming a civil servant.
I'm worried about him, because I think that he really likes to have fun.
He's supposed to keep up with his work to be a civil servant in Korea.
Anyway, the 19 years old girl kept asking sensitive questions to him.
For example, "what will you do for a living? When did you study? Isn't it hart to study alone?"
I said to him in my mind "That's exactly what I want to say!"
I wish he would pay more attention to what he's doing.

young : HeeJun Han From American Idol (2)

I want to introduce a guy. He is a Korean-American.
He is funny and also he can sing.
He is the top 9 in American Idol season 11, HeeJun Han.
One Sunday morning, I was watching TV show called "People Inside."
The hostest on the show was interviewing a guy.
He looks like an ordinary guy in his 20's.
He seems to be a quiet person, but sometimes he was funny.
I liked his sarcastic humor.
I started getting more curious about this guy.
I searched internet, and I found some blogs and articles about him.
He is already famous in the States because of his great sense of hummor.
He dreamed about becoming an entertainer in Korea, so he left for Korea to break into entertainment industry, but he finally gave up everything and went back to NY.
He told that he couldn't do anything at that time due to feelings of failure and depression.
But his life completly changed after he started volunteering for a non-profit organization.
He was encouraged by the organization for the disabled to start all over again.
Since the organization was always lacking of financial resources, he decided to enter American Idol to publicize the organization.
From the first episode, he started breaking the stereotype towards Asians who were on American Idol.
In truth, American Idol has made Asians the butt of jokes in many episode.
They intentionally used to let the Asian contestants who can't sing well on the show.
In an interview, he said that he wanted to show the world that Asians are not only good for getting high scores on their SATs. They are also good at singing and entertaining. That is the stereotype he wanted to break from this opportunity.
I hope that he will be a good entertainer.

I don't need to speak English at all,
but my bad memories push me to learn English more and more.

Oneday, I came acrros a cool web site.
This site is for people who want exchange languages.
I resistered this site and wrote some articles and posted it.
And then, native speakers corrected my writings for me.
Instead, I helped other people who want to learn Korean.
I really enjoyed it, and it was very helpful to improve my English.

If I can speak English fluently, I want to have a lot of friends from all around the world, and I want to travel a lot.
I expect my outlook of life will broaden through learning English.

young : Korean Slangs (12)

These are commonly-used Korean slangs, but I don't suggest that you use these words.
These words are informal, so you must not use these words in formal situations.

First one is "헐"[her].
It contains various meaning in a sarcastic mood.
When you feel something is akward or weird, you can say "헐"
It means that it's akward but I don't care.
Or you can also say "헐" when you're supprised by something and also you don't much care about it.
Here is the dialogue.
A : I like the women who grows a mustache.
B : 헐. [her]

Second is "대박"[daebak].
When someone hit the jackpot, you can say "대박."
It means good for you.
When you're suprised by good things or bad things you can also say "대박."

A : I saw Lady Gaga at the mall, yesterday.
B : 대박

young : Sydney Opera House (3)

I have been busy these days with preparing a big event.
Our university orchestra will perform at Sydney Opera House.
This is a big opportunity for our students because students can rarely perform on the stage of Sydney Opera House.
It costs a lot. We have over 100 members plus we need seats for musical instruments.
Luckly, someone donated big money for our concert.
And yet we have some problems remained.
We're still negotiating for visa with embassy of Australia, and finding a proper hotel.
It's very difficult for me to do this kind of jobs, but I'm looking forward to see our big concert in Sydney Opera House.

There is a famous saying "It's no use crying over spilt milk."
That means you can't change something wich has already happened.
When bad things happened because of your speaking, you can't take it back.
엎질러진 물은 주워 담아도 소용없다. 라는 말이 있다.
한 번 뱉은 말은 후회해도 바꿀 수 없다는 뜻이다.

Kim gu-ra, a Korean comedian, announced his retirement because of his blasting criticism.
김구라라는 한 코미디언이 10년전 자신이 인터넷 방송에서 한 말때문에 은퇴를 선언했다.

About ten years ago, he used to blast harshly famous celebrities and reveal social discontent on his internet channel.
그는 자신의 인터넷 방송에서 다른 연예인들을 비방하거나 막말을 했다.

Now, after he gained fame, he's paying for that.
10년이 지나고 그가 유명해 진 후 지금에야 그는 그 값을 치르고 있는 중이다.

There is no expiration date on speaking.
말에는 유통기한이 없는 것 같다.

I think that I should think twice before I say something.
지금 내가 하고 있는 말 한마디 한마디 신중하게 생각하고 말해야겠다는 생각이 든다.

I was in a magazine two years ago.
This profile picture is from that magazine.
One day, I was reading an article about makeover.
The magazine publishing company was looking for someone who wants to change look.
My mom watched me reading the magazine and said. "Aren't you bored of your life? Why don't you try some makeover. Send an e-mail to the magazine."
So I sent an e-mail written that I want to chage my look
A few days later, I got a call from a chief editor of that magazine.
She said that they chose me as a model for makeover.
They made a reservation for my hair and makeup, and prepared a dress for me.
After my hair and makeup are done, I got my photo shoot.
I posed in front of a photographer like a model. It was awesome.
A month later, the magazine that I was in is published.
I looked unnatural on the magazine, so I din't want to look at the picture of me, but my mom still carry that magazine.

young : My personality (5)

I'm a person who like joking around.
I like wordplay.
I make a new word or shorten a word in Korean.
Sometimes I feel frustrated because I can't tell a good joke in English.
I often tell a lie just for fun, so my friends called me a "shepherd-girl".
When I went on a business trip to other countries, I used to make a reservation in the name of famous Korean celebrities.
I'm a grown up now, I think I should be more serious.

young : A short trip to Xian (4)

I went to Xi'an last september with my church members.
Xi'an is an ancient capital of China, one of the oldest cities of China.
You can see traditional architectures and streets when you go to Xi'an.
In this short trip, the most memorable event is riding a bicycle on the city wall of Xi'an.
The city surrounded by a big city wall.
People can walk or ride a bicycle on the wall, looking down the city.
Riding a bicycle, feeling gentle breeze on the wall is amazing.
It felt like I was flying.
I've been several asian cities such as Tokyo, Beijing, Bangkok, including Seoul.
They seem similar.
However, there is something special in Xi'an because of its traditional atmosphere.

young : My hairstyles (2)

I cut my bangs for a new look today.
It helps me look younger.
I place a lot of weight on my hairstyles like other girls.
I have naturally frizzy curly and thick hair, so I straighten my hair regularly.
It costs a lot, but I can't help doing that.
When I was a student, my school don't let students make their hair long.
I was ruled out because I have to do ponytail to handle my fizzy hair.
Thankfully, someone invented straightners.
I called it "Young's life changing" inventions.
Anyway, I'm sorry for writing this boring topic.
Can you guys give me some good tips to improve my writing?

young : Boxing (5)

I'm not that quite an active person, but I go to boxing at least three times a week.
Boxing is great exercise and fun.
I have my own gear, boxing gloves, bandages.
At first, I skip rope for about 15 minutes as soon as I get to the gym.
And then, I wrap my hands with thick bandages.
This is my favorite part, because everytime I wrap my hands I feel like a fighter. Woo-hoo~
And then, put on boxing gloves, practice punch and defence in front of a mirror.
Sometimes I do sparring in the ring.
I love to do this boxing training routine, but I don't like watching this game.

young : Playing musical instruments (4)

I used to learn how to play the piano as a kid for about three or four years, but I almost forgot how to play the piano.
In college, one of my friend taught me how to read the note and chord, so I practiced the piano every day.
It was very fun to play chord piano, because It's easy and I could play the piano most of pop songs.
Recently, I taught myself how to play the guitar.
It's much easier than piano.
If you interested in any musical instruments I suggest you learn how to read the chord.
It will be an energizer for your life.

young : 건축학개론 : The most popular Korean movie in this week. (3)

I went to a movie with my colleague yesterday.
The movie title is "건축학개론" which means "Introduction of Architecture".
This story is not about architecture but about first love.
One woman asked an architect to build her house.
Actually, they took the same class, Introduction of Architecture, when they were colleage students.
They loved each other but they didn't realize at that time.
While building her house, they finally realized their emotions.
There are a lot of flashbacks of 1990s in this movie.
That reminds me my colleage days also.
Especially, people in mid-thirties go crazy over this movie.
Beacause they recall the happy memories through this movie.

My high school days was one of toughest periods of my life.
I had to take the high school enterace exam to get into the high school.
All students of my high school can enter university, beacause they studied very hard.
We normally arrived at school by seven o'clock and watched an educational TV program.
After regular classes, we took the make-up classes untill dinner.
After dinner, I went to cram schools for catching up the subject that I'm not good at.
But, sometimes, we had a lot of fun.
We went to a movie or went on a picnic.
Looking back, it was a combination of fun and study.

young : Mad men : what is loneliness. (0)

This is a review of Mad men, the famous TV series.
Someone recomends me to watch this show.
I couldn't sleep all night following up the whole episodes of season 1.
The first season started to broadcast since 2007.
The main character is Don Draper, hansome, creative director of advertising agency.
He is a veiled person. He never talks about his childhood.
Mad men feels like the book of Ecclesiastes.
Don has everything, beatiful wife, kids, house, good career but he is not happy.
Each character in that show has similar problems.
They're all sad and lonely, but they hide their emotions.
We do not know anyone who lives in sitcom or Disney movies.
We are living in the world like the world of Mad men.
This is the reason I tune in to this story.
