Dumpling, which is the northerners in China always like eating, is a traditional Chinese food. Dumpling can be boiled in a pot, fried or steamed. There are traditional ways to cook dumpling. We always eat dumplings go with vinegar. It has the legend Chinese have eaten dumpling since the Three Kingdoms period, which was about 2000 years ago.

It Chinese name is jiao zi. Fried dumplings name is jian jiao or guo tie. Steamed one is zheng jiao. In Chinese New Year northerners eat boiled dumplings, btw southerners don't eat it in Spring festival. I cannot tell you exactly which way is traditional.- -
