Turtles' Grudge

I heard quite an interesting news report.
There are 2 Galapagos giant turtles in an Austrian zoo who have lived happily together more than a century. Suddenly the world's oldest animal marriage is on the rocks, for real.
Not too long ago, female turtle took a bite at her husband's shell, ever since the couple have been fighting. Their Austrian zookeepers say they can't seem to stand the sight of each other anymore and fear that they could actually do serious harm to one another. So zookeepers are trying to get them to readjust to living with each other. But so far we're told nothing had worked. So when the zookeepers leave, they keep the turtles apart. They're going to end up experiencing loneliness and depression in old age.
I thought turtles' shells had been hardened without any sense of feeling.
I learned animals also remember hurts and hold grudges.
It reminds me of Doctors' saying: the hatred, unforgiving and loneliness slowly kill you from the inside.

You can leave "turtle" in the sentence. It's not incorrect, but it's not necessary either.
