Today, I will say about whaling.
I am now 19 years old.
Same generations may not have eaten whale!(I have eaten whale only once.)
Recently, we Japanese rarely eat whale meet.
The culture of whaling is gradually disappearing.
We would live without eating whale.
"So, Japanese have to quit whaling right now!"some west people may say.
Though, it is not easy for us to stop whaling.
Whaling is continuing since many years ago.
we can not abandon such traditional culture soon!
Decreasing number of whales is caused by west people.
Japanese have used all parts of whale, but west people have only taken oil from whale and abandon them.
If such west people say "Do not do whaling because whale is decreasing!",we Japanese can not make sense easily.
"Stop whaling because eating whale is cruel!" is out of the question.
Surely, we should know whaling is seen savage by western people.
Though, the decision of whether stop or do whaling should be decided by only Japanese.
I think whaling would soon be none, I wish western people only watch this process quietly.
今日は捕鯨問題について書きます。
僕は今１９歳ですが、おそらく同世代でクジラを食べたことがある人は非常に少ないでしょう。
今日本ではほとんどクジラ肉が流通していないのが現状です。
日本でクジラを食べる文化は確かになくなりつつあります。
ほとんどの日本人はクジラを食べなくても生きていけるでしょう。
「では日本は今すぐ捕鯨をやめればいいのではないか」と思う方もいるでしょう。
ところが問題はそう簡単ではありません。
今に至るまで何百年と続いてきた捕鯨という文化をそう簡単にやめることはできないのです。
そもそも、クジラの数が減ったのは西洋人による乱獲が大きな原因です。
日本人はクジラのすべての部位を利用しますが、西洋人はクジラの油だけを取って捨てていたそうです。
そのようなことをしてきた西洋人にいまさら「クジラの数が減ったから、クジラを取るのをやめろ」と言われても容易に納得はできません。
「クジラがかわいそうだから、捕鯨をやめろ」というのは問題外です。
確かに捕鯨が世界的に見て野蛮に映ることは確かです。
日本人は捕鯨という文化が西洋人から見て野蛮に映るということをより認識すべきだと思います。
ですが捕鯨をやめるかどうかは日本が決めることです。
いずれ捕鯨はなくなるでしょうが、西洋の方々には静かに見守っていて欲しいものです。
