When I was a baby, I could not read books and could not write diaries like this. However, I could speak a few words. Listening is the earliest, one and only way of learning our native language. So we should lisent to the native speakers on how to speak their language. Speaking is the next a way. When I was growing up slowly, I had just begun to learn how to read and write.
Anyway, we need to communicate with the native speakers to improve our skills.

I don't like speaking chinese though ... the tones are too hard for my english-wired brain.

This is very useful to me. Thank you very much.
