On July 6, when the localized heavy rain in West Japan devastated the area, two head patrol officers in Hirosima, Mr. Yamasaki, 29 years old, and Mr. Shinkawa, 28 years old, became missing when they were driving.
They were found dead on July 17 and 18 consecutively.

Telling other drivers, who became stalled due to a landslide, to evacuate, both officers saved the lives of seven people and shed by a muddy stream to death.

西日本豪雨のあった6日夜、広島県警呉署交通課の巡査長、山崎賢弘(かつひろ)さん(29)と晋川(しんかわ)尚人さん(28)は一緒に車で帰宅中に行方不明となり、17、18日に相次いで死亡が確認された。

土砂崩れで立ち往生した他の車に避難を呼びかけ、7人の命を救いながら自分たちは流されて殉職した。

遺体の捜索現場に通った家族は悲しみをこらえ、「誇りに思う」とその行動をたたえた。
