What's good to learn non-native languages ?

I had my account of Lang-8 months ago but I haven't been an active user by now. I seriously begun using Lang-8 since yesterday because I wanted to do new things for next year 2012. So far, I was honestly amazed with any posted messages in my mother language. And I was pretty impressed with their energy for mastering foreign languages. But I wonder why people are such passionate to learn non-native languages. What is truly good ?

such + adjective is not commonly used ? I was trying to say like "こんなに情熱的なのか" in English.

名詞だったら大丈夫ですよ。 What a passionate person you are! あれ？使わなかった（笑）　You're such a passionate person! He's such a nice guy! It's such a nice day! でも形容詞だったら、そうですね、 He's so passionate, It's so nice out, She's so sweet. どうしてもその「こんなに」というニュアンスを示したかったら、んんん、多分 'this' を使えばいいね。 I didn't know he was this passionate. (そして話してるときに、this という言葉を強調して言いますね。） 他の例を挙げれば、 Wow, it's January but you're wearing shorts! Is it that hot out? (emphasize the word 'that') Or こんなにたくさんやらなきゃいけないことがあるの？？ is You have this (強調してね） much stuff to do???

たしかに、そういえばsuchを使うときは名詞が入ってますね。高校生の時、習ったかもしれない、お恥ずかしい（汗）。
形容詞の前にthisが使えるとは知りませんでした！勉強になります～。

  • What's the advantage of learning foreign languages?/What's the perk of learning foreign languages?/What's (so) great about foreign languages? *Lots of options, each with different nuances. GDoe5's second sentence is good too.

I can definitely relate to this. I look at everyone's entries, and I can't help but wonder how they manage to keep studying with such vigor. Where do they get the energy?!?
