Gumgom : Damn Mosquito (4)

Damn Mosquito

This afternoon, I felt that I was so tired that I need to get on the bed and take a short nap. Everything that was reflected in my crystalline lens was dull, not so distinct at all, so I decided to solve the problem.

But this small, irritating damn mosquito kept buzzing around me and it had prevent me from falling asleep before I dealt a death blow to it! I swung at it with my hands, knocked it down to the floor and eventually pressed it hard as hard as I could; I rubbed it against the floor with my hand on which my full weight was being converged.

After that, I found out that this hellishly squashed mosquito has left a bead of blood on my palm while popping up. I think I need to wash it out after finishing this journal.

I'm now fully awake...... Damn mosquito, I hope you go to hell! hahaha

Gumgom : Feeling so tired. (2)

Feeling so tired.

Helluva tired. Don 't know why. I'm sweating a lot like a pig working up a sweat eating feeds in their pig bin. Something sticky and even slimy is continuously running through my nostril and flowing down on my cheek. Is it a sign of a bad cold? How the hell can I get this uncomfortable stuff out? Haven't I recently work too hard? So many things are getting on my nerves with their damned flu symptoms. Ay, this irritating snot stuffs up my nose again!

I think I need to get rest for a while to kick 'em out.

Gumgom : Chienese or Spanish? (6)

Chienese or Spanish? It is a Tough Call!

For such a long time, I have been thinking that I will start studing Chinese some time or other. But recently, I found out that Spanish(español) is also an awesome language! Why do Spanish musics sound sooo fantastic? Moreover, some of my friends are Latino or Latina and they speak Spanish so often, even thought all of them are actually English speakers!

But the problem is that Chinese is also fantastic! There are a lot of people who speak Chinese in Korea and as I know, China town is everywhere in the world so much so that if I learn Chinese, I will make Chinese friends anytime anywhere!

To learn Chinese or to learn Spanish, ay there's the rub!

Gumgom : Couldn't be happier! (9)

Couldn't be happier!

The mid-terms are finally over, so I can focus all my energy on studying English. Wahaha. Thank God for putting a miserable end to the damn pain in my ass that have tortured my brain for so long time!

By the way, I was recently asked this question by one of my friends that "You moron! Why in the world do you study English? What the hell is the point of that? There are a hell lot of people who can't both speak and write English, but all of them have no problem at all! If I were you, I would rather focus on studying subjects that are parts of your major!" So I told him "F*** you, that's none of your business! Yes, it would be nothing less than a stupid thing that I have studied it. But you know what though? Learning language kinda clears learners' minds and souls! You know what else? I've read a lot of books that are written in English so far and I wouldn't have been able to do so if I didn't study it! You dare to put a damper on my eagerness toward language!"

Haha anyway, the point is that I took the exams and aced every subject and I'm gonna crank up the engine in my brain that has been set up for language learning!

Not only English but I'm also thinking of learning Chinese cause becoming a trilingual speaker is one of the most fantastic things I can achieve in my entire life! Although Chinese is difficult to learn because of its variable intonation and lots of Chinese characters that are really hard to learn by heart, I will get over every obstacle, no matter what it is and will stand in the way of the way of my goal! Fortunately, I know about 1000 Chinese characters, although most of them are not simplified characters(簡化字), but traditional ones(繁體字)! (70% of Korean words are based on Chinese Characters!)

Thank you for reading this posting!! Nothing can make me happier than your collection to this posting! Could you correct it please?

Do you think my entries have been written in an edtorial tone?

To learn written English, I usually read English daily newspapers such as The Korea Times, The Korea Herald, and The Korea Jungang Daily. These newspapers are, of course, pretty difficult for me though they are quite easy compared to The New York Times or The Washington Post.

Of the articles in the newspapers, the most frequently read one by me is an editorial. But I found out a few weeks ago that I had made lots of unnecessarily woody sentences when I wrote a composition on some topics.

Do you think this writing style is good or not? Can you tell me where you do stand?

Gumgom : In Praise Of Chicken (2)

In Praise Of Chicken

Today, in the evening, I was really hungry. It seemed that nothing could satisfy my voracious appetite. It must be time to make a decision. Do I have to withstand this more than torture or surrender to my craving for something yummy yummy? There was no need to say anything. Definitely, I had to take in everything I could eat, as I was dying of hunger and my mouth was watering like the Niagara Falls.

I ordered in a fried chicken. Fortunately, the delivery boy delivered it with few delay. I didn't know why, but the chicken was fantastic indeed! It was flavourful and its excellent savour was out of this world! It tasted like heaven! Nobody would dare take me away from the chicken! It would take SWAT team to remove me from it!

But, when I was in the restroom to deal with my number 2 emergency, my roommate ate up the rest of the chicken. When I found out that there was nothing left for me, I yelled at him.

"You son of a biscuit!! Where the hell is my chicken!? Bring up the chicken!

Of course, it was of no use to grab his shoulder and shake it left and right to have him to give me the lost chicken.

Gumgom : Quick Question. (7)

Quick Question.

There are two people. One is a woman and the other is a man. They are friends or something like more or less, like lovers or a acquaintance. Both are young and not so special or weird at all. Kinda like plain people we can meet easily or whatsoever.

In this situation, if the man refers to the woman as "buttercup", what does it mean? Dictionary says it is a yellowish flower and its stem but it doesn't make sense at all in the context.

Thinking it would be slang or something, I visited Urban Dictionary but I have not gotten any good answer yet.

Would anyone on Lang-8 answer this question? I think this usage of the word is to tease her or mock her in a way that goes too far. Am I right?

Gumgom : Pyeongyang, The Pain In The Ass - Part 3 (1)

What South Koreans need to do is keep their composure in this critical crisis and their wits about themselves. They have to remain vigilant about possible smear rumors toward the South Korean government and ideology pro-North Korea activists may make and any political forces which seek to ride a wave of this crisis in order to strengthen their power.

Time and again Pyongyang threatens Seoul in various ways. As it clearly has turned out, the so-called Sunshine policy with which late presidents Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun treated North Korea isn't effective at all. Undeniable it is that the North will never be thankful to us - Heaven forbid! - for aid we've been offering with full of humanitarian spirit.

Kim Jung-un and The North Korean Worker's Party should know the more illicit action they pursue, the more beleaguered they are. Not only that, but also Pyongyang should realise that more tension would make more antagonism and enmity toward it amongst South Koreans and more estrangement from incoming president Madam Park.

I've heard that Watchcon, an alert state used by the Korean military amidst indications of a vital threat, is being placed through all over the area of alert operation. As a member of the Korean Army reserves, I would really like to give my full applause to South Korean solders who is currently being on the alert mission undauntedly in the face of this nation-scale crisis.

Gumgom : Pyeongyang, The Pain In The Ass - Part 2 (1)

To solve this nuclear conundrum and deter the Kim's regime from engaging in yet another provocative action, a hard-line approach is much more needed rather than an appeasement policy. I strongly believe that the three countries, by doing so, will be able to make Kim Jung-un realise that any brinkmanship tactics will no longer work out at all and the only way to keep his reclusive regime is sincerely participate in the six-party talk which have been stalled for about 3 years, with no strings attached.

For China's part, even though it has been the faithful hitherto patron to North since the Korean war, it should do its utmost to dissuade North Korea from pursuing more nuclear weapons and cut off any humanitarian assistance until Pyongyang bows to our repeatedly put forward demands: abandoning all nuclear-related programmes in a verifiable manner and sincerely taking part in the six-party talk.

Amid heightened tension, South Korea president-elect Park Geun-hye should deal with this touch-and-go situation in a cool-headed manner. It doesn't mean that Park should accept concession-extorting blackmail and swallow any affront toward South Korea and the government the North may make. Instead of putting up with insults from Pyongyang, Park should show her strong will that she will never look on idly this situation with folded arms and leave no stone unturned to give Kim's regime actual punishments. If needed, she could come up with more harsh sanction in cooperation with the U.S, Japan, and any other countries.

Gumgom : Pyeongyang, The Pain In The Ass - Part 1 (3)

I would really appreciate it if you correct any of my three postings

P.S Having a bad neighbor isn't good for the world :(

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

North Korea unsheathe its sabre and rattled it again despite stern warnings from international community. Conducting its abrupt nuclear bomb test in defiance of U.N Security Council resolution on Tuesday, it did pose a truly grave threat to the Korean Peninsula and its neighbor countries. As a South Korean who hopes for real peace and stabilization on the Korean Peninsula, I roundly condemn the North Korean government and its leader Kim Jung-un for the outrageous act that clearly violates the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and Inter-Korean Joint Statement.

Given North's numerous provocations, it is no wonder that many countries denounced North Korea no sooner than had it recklessly set off its dangerous firecracker, the atomic arsenal. Already, there have been two previous attempts at detonating nuclear bombs in 2006 and 2009. However, the third nuclear test is really very serious indeed as it allegedly has long-range missiles which can target west coast of the U.S, not to mention they can strike entire South Korea and Japan. The increasing possibility of rocket reaching the U.S mainland means the North will require it to lift already-imposed economic sanctions, more than ever.

However, the South Korea, Japan, and U.S government shouldn't accede to the dictator Kim Jung-un's expected demands unless he abandons his reckless ambition and shows sincere apology for the brazen threat. The North has yet to have a proven ability to miniaturize its nuclear devices and set nuclear warhead up on the missiles. Nevertheless, it goes without saying that it's only a matter of time before it completes the warhead-miniaturizing research. No proven ability doesn't mean no need to worry about. On top of that, reportedly concealed uranium-enrichment facilities are another serious problem we should consider. To our great misfortune, the impoverished and isolated country is quite abundant in uranium.

Gumgom : Right Policy Toward North Korea - Part 3 (2)

North has yet to receive enough comeuppance for the unprovoked attacks. It will try to make more provocative movement if President Mr Lee step down and Madam Park set out her president career either in order to secure economic aid or get its populace and military authority officials to close ranks. If Park gives them economic aid or any other humanitarian assistance without sincere apology from the north for its belligerent actions, it is, after all, equivalent to moving into the direction North wanted.

Instead of playing into their hands, we should deal with North Korea with a hard-line attitude. As for the possible attacks from North Korea, what we need to do is keep the ancient Rome's maxim of "Prepare for war if you want real peace" in mind. If their ships dare try to pass through the de facto maritime borderline, NLL(Northern Limit Line, 북방한계선), we should head them off before they get into our territory. If they dare try to attack us, we need to counterattack them with everything in our hands.

Once and for all, they will finally know they will not get what they want by extorting concessions from us and their blackmail strategy will no longer be effective in getting what they want. No more mistake should be allowed. We do not have to repeat our huge mistake just as two late presidents Roh Moo-hyun and Kim Dae-joong did!!

Gumgom : Right Policy Toward North Korea - Part 2 (3)

Furthermore, North Korea even went so far as to hijack the Korean Air Flight 858 and killed all passengers on board. It even sent some armed communist guerrillas to Gangneung city 2 decades ago and in two naval battles at Yeongpeong it did fire shells at South's Chamsuri Class Patrol Ship. However, the most shocking provocation would be bombarding on Yeongpeong island and the surprise attack on the Cheonan corvette North has recently made. Both attacks were clearly the violation of the Armistice Agreement of The Korean war and totally ignored the spirit of June 15, 2000 Inter-Korean Joint Statement, The ostensible reason for the attacks was, as they always said, to fire back because South Korea did strike a first attack.

Need I say more about it? North has made a number of approximately 2700 provocations. Hundreds of pages would be needed if I write out all of them in this posting in detail. Above tragedies show us that Sunlight policy-based movements don't really work at all and North will continue putting Korea's peace in jeopardy. In a word, to thwart North's possible provocation, billy club is more needed than sweat candy. Also we shouldn't neglect to defend us from North's attack. If it attacks again even a bit of South Korea's soil, no matter how much it will cost we should hit back at the root of the attack with hundred times tougher counterattack. If it kills innocent civilian again, we should deal a deathblow to the origin of the attack without any hesitation.

However, some pro-North Koreans disguising themselves of dovishness have raised their voice, saying that dialogue-oriented approach is far better than repelling any threat North makes even though indiscriminate attack killed our fellow compatriots and soldiers. They even went on to say South Korea and its president Lee were blamed for all attacks. I would like to say this to people who always make that ridiculous comment. "If you love N.K to the point of supporting it, just leave South Korea for good and live in North!"

Gumgom : Right Policy Toward North Korea - Part 1 (1)

I will really appreciate it if any of you correct any of my postings! Thank you for reading it and enjoy it~!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Park Geun-hye, who won the neck-and-neck presidential race against Moon Jae-in of the Democratic United Party about 2 months ago, is going to take her seat in the Blue House in 2 weeks. As I gave my vote to the incoming president, I can't wait to see her inauguration ceremony being held. Yet, time to celebrate hasn't come yet.

One question, still lingering on mind of all staunch supporters of her including me is how the Korea's first female president will treat North Korea, one of the most isolated and hard-to-deal-with countries in the world. There may be only one option Madam president can take although some may argue that there are two. They will say Park can take either a hard-line or a soft-line stance on North Korea. Given North recently carried out the so-called Democratic Republic of Chosun Korea's rocket test and its numerous acts of provocation toward South Korea, however, there is only one option: hard-line stance.

Looking back, provocations that took the lives of many innocent South Koreans and turned out that North was responsible for are sufficient evidence that there will be a fat chance of changing its attitude. Think about the incident that took place on Jan 21 1968 in which North Korea Special Force's leader Kim Shin-jo and his subordinates infiltrate into South Korea and reached near the Blue House in order to assassinate then President Park Jung-hee. Although the deployed special force units were all killed in the gunfight and failed their mission, North didn't give up on its terror attack. When former president Chun Doo-hwan visited Burma, at the Aung San Cemetery in Myanmar terrorists from North Korea detonated bombs and 17 South Korean officials died in the agonies of death.
Furthermore, the law has lots of loopholes students can exploit to play adult-only games. My brother, Jin sung eventually found ways to outwit what he saw as a stupid clumsy solution. Not only he, but other youngsters also found ways to get around to the law. By signing up their parents registration numbers(주민등록번호, similar to social security numbers) they can log on every game.

People know very well what and who caused the abrupt end of the once prospering Korean animation industry which may have grew as greatly as the Japanimation industry. As it did in the 1960s and 70s, game industry can be likely to fall prey to negative views toward games. Given Korea is one of the most wired countries in the world, game industry is making a considerable contribution to the country's whole economy. Not only that, but E-sports, the game league for the best game gladiators(Professional-gamers) is becoming an important cultural part of Koreans. However, if this anarchronistic and teenager-unfriendly curfew holds up, no young people will have a dream of becoming a game developer or professional gamers, both of which have been significantly contributing to Korea's remarkable IT industry. There will be no debate who is to blame if today's Korean game industry whittle down its power to a shadow of its current self and is eventually gone someday.

Students! It's time to turn the table on them! Time to make a resistance movement against the spreading power of the MOGEF! They may, even at this very moment of that I'm writing this posting, be pondering how to crack down on games more efficiently! Get your act together before other evil attempts to take away your right to pursue happiness! Don't let them evermore catch you off-guard! No more missile titled "Lets-die-out-the-game-industry allowed to be launched from them because its payload will be so explosive that in the near future, the industry will be eventually ruined and we can't play any game! Because you and I won't be able to live without games, you should take action as soon as possible! hahah!

------------------------------
Thank you for reading my postings! Don't take the last paragraph in this part seriously haha!!
If any of you correct any of my postings, I would really, really appreciate it!!!! Thank you!

Gumgom : Curfew on Games - Part 3 (1)

It goes without saying that the side effects of game addiction cannot be fundamentally dealt with by regarding computer games simply as harmful media. Stupid, idiots! The should have planned thing out in very very much depth. I admit that there are some people who have escaped reality by abandoning totally themselves to visual reality in a state of being confused between reality and virtual reality or have run game factories where dozens of their computers are programmed to play without any person but with their management only for generating items, neglecting their real world lives. Comprehensive measure will be need to detox them from video game addiction. However, regulation-oriented steps shouldn't be allowed as this is a violation of the rights of game users and developers. In other words, the curfew on game, shutdown, totally goes against student's right to pursue happiness, which first amendment in article 1 of the Korea Constitution say is the one of the most important rights civilians have regardless of their ages! It should be the parents who decide on whether or not allowing their children to play or not, either through an agreement with them or compulsorily turning computers off! Is there no other way they can take? Oh come on, there's gotta be a way! What the stupid ministry have to do is expand counseling for the addicted, open specialized units to treat the disorder, or make them spare more time to partaking in outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and studying. It is not the regulation, but the attention of parents and the implementation of educational programmes that should be prioritized. If playing games at night should be banned, pressuring students to study at "hakwon(cram schools; education institution for the CSAT)" or forcing them to stay at schools until 10 p.m should be restricted!

Will students whip out a hand-gun or a set of knives from their pockets and use it to blow away someone's head just because they get angry as Nico Bellic does in GTA4? Will they try to form a dragon-slaying raider and set out their swashbuckling adventure to kill dragon and get items in the real world? No they will not!

It is called now, "The shut down system". and force every underaged player out of their games when the clock strikes midnight.

In the previous posting on Lang-8, I told you some tragic stories related to game addiction and warned that it can be dangerous enough to ruin one's life. I wrote the posting just to shed light on the dangerousness of the addiction itself, and to say that it seems that there needs to be some measures from the government against the addiction. But severing connections to the game by compulsorily shutting down? I would like to ask officers of the MOGEF, if I meet any of them. "Are you crazy or what? What kind of drugs did you do when you made this RIDICULOUS special law?

It comes as no surprise to me that the law has drawn fierce protest from many young gamers and game companies. If something should be restricted just because it is dangerous, should we protect people from driving cars because it's possible that a road accident occur in the same manner? Why it's supposed to apply to only games? Should TV, reading, signing, dancing, and even studying, all that can be disturbing students' sound sleeping be shut down officially through their shutting hands? I call these anti-game movements "Chopping severly the industry with a butcher knife into pieces" or "난도질".

It seems that, for some people, who are definitely complete pain in the ass for gamers in Korea, playing game and snorting cocaine are basically the same things and both should be lumped together as a same category even though they bear few similarity each other. The only thing they share is the primary purpose of using them: breaking up one's boredom!

However, in Korea, some civic groups and one ministry(which are some people I mentioned in the above paragraph), have raised their voice on online games, decibel by decibel, under the stupid-sounding slogan "Protect ourselves from EVIL games!" . Finally its level hits my ceiling that have kept me just sitting back and watching. Nothing is more uncomfortable to hear what they are bellowing like a herd of bulls do about game, it is a more disturbing sound than thumping electromelody that blares out from motorcyclist gangs' damned custom bikes running down the road.

About a year ago, a news appeared on Naver, Korea's most popular internet portal site, made me blow my fuse. The news said that the MOGEF(Ministry of Gender Equality and Family) were considering officially putting a restraint on user's playing time of game. When I noticed it, I couldn't help but letting the most swearful word I could make out in the air.

"Oh, god. What the f*** is this?

The good feeling I was having that day through basking both in wonderfully dazzling sunshine and fresh wind blowing softly around my house early in the morning suddenly went to hell in a handbasket, along with feigned laughing full of sarcasm.

"This is the most creative idea ever since the beginning of the Anthropocene! No, since human's farthest ancestor, Australopithecus, began walking upright a couple of million years ago! Who the hell came up with this crazy f***ing shit?

But after looking through the article entirely, I realized that the curfew, if imposed, it would only affect minors, those who are under 18. Allaying my fear and angry toward the MOGEF, I breathed a sigh of relief.

"Hey, Jin seong(My younger brother, He was then a 15-years-old student)! You know what? Haha, I'm gonna tell you what. You may be unable to play any Online game sooner or later, because the MOGEF is thinking of blocking the underaged from accessing to online games after midnight!" I said.

"What the hell are you talking about? They will render online games unplayable and this will be only applied to young students?" said he, with stiffening face full of embarrassment.

"Exactly. Man, you've hit the nail on the head"

Gumgom : TOEFL (6)

It's been about a year since I began learning English last year, but I still have a hard time understanding English. A couple of days ago, right after finishing finals, I made up my mind to prepare for the TOEFL(Test of English as Foreign Language) since I really wanted to go overseas, especially countries where English is widely spoken.

I've kept studying very hard so far although I was kind of busy last year doing many other things I had to do such as participating in voluntary programme and taking licencing examinations related to my major.

To look back on myself and the year just passed, it was not bad. But, one thing I'm really regretful about is that I should have studied English more intensively. If I did, my English would have been better than it is now and taking the TOEFL would be nothing to worry about.

But, no more regret should be allowed! I will get, at least, a socre of 100 without fail no matter how hard it will be and go to other country as a exchange student.

Since I'm going to be in third grade after this winter vacation is over, I will be quite busy doing schoolwork so I'll have little time to spare to the test. It's not easy to focus on the English test while working on reports of major classes. I wish I can go back to when I'm a freshman even if it's possible that I am hazed by upperclassstudents again.

Gumgom : War on Newspapers (1)

Sometimes, I read daily newspapers written in English. The newspapers are "The Korea Times"(www.koreatimes.co.kr/), "The Korea Herald"(www.koreaherald.co.kr) and "The Korea Jungang Daily"(joongangdaily.joins.com).

The number of articles I have read so far is, well, maybe more than 300 articles, but I still have a difficulty understanding sentences and words used in English-written articles, especially ones in Nation and World section.

When can I understand English-daily throughly without any difficulty? When wouldn't I depend on English-Korean dictionary anymore while reading it? Well, I'm not sure when I would be able to do that and, well... to be quite honest with you, it seems that it would take forever for me to be able to do that...

But it must be better than doing nothing! I just set up a new goal. Tomorrow, at the kiosk store located near my home, I will buy any English-daily newspaper and read it from its first to last page at least 5 times!

It wouldn't be easy to read from its first to end since newspapers aren't usually written in plain and simple English, but as I recently feel that I have a limited vocabulary of English and whenever I write an English-written essay, I kind of suffer from writer's block, so from now on, I will wage war on the newspapers!!!

Newspapers! Prepare yourself to be beaten off! I will try and try to lead this battle to successful war! How? I will read you up intensively and thoroughly until there's no more word that I don't know the meaning of!

Gumgom : Game Addiction - Part 2 (4)

A few month later, other shocking stories hit the nation. A 20-something man killed his mother after her mother nagged him to stop him from playing game. How can anyone kill his family for pestering him? Not only that, but another news that I'm going to tell you is also tragic enough. After playing an online game for 5 consecutive days, a man died of exhaustion in a PC-room as he went into cardiac arrest. I even remember that some gamers who belonged to "Blood Alliance" or "Blood Guild" in Lineage, one of the Korea's most popular online game, tracked down other guild members and tried to kill them for killing their characters in the Aden continent.

To be honest with you, I once got hooked on World of Warcraft. Being immersed in a world of "Attack!" and "Avoid!" and thinking of strengthening my Orc worrier and Taurine druid's combat prowess by carrying out my game quest or raiding boss monsters, I have neglected everything except game and studying has taken the back seat so it is no wonder that I have done poorly at my school. Fortunateley, I got back controlling capacity that I had lost and since then I have played it with clear borderline between playing and studying.

Needless to say, we don't have to neglect what we have to do. Few people can juggle their offline and online lives without any trouble. What I'm saying in this context is not to stop playing it but don't let yourself be stuck in front of computer screens, being unaware of how much time goes by. Don't be dominated by it and let them draw you too much in the virtual world.

Gumgom : Game Addiction - Part 1 (6)

A few years ago, one news rocked the entire country for a few months. About a 3-month-old baby, whose name is Kim Sa-rang (which means "Love" in English), was found dead at her home. After performing an autopsy on the little baby's entire body, the Korean Police investigator, at an official news conference, made the nation-shocking announcement. According to the announcement, the baby was starved to death due to malnutrition. Can you imagine a scene of where tiny baby's body is totally shriveled and dried up, like a mummy buried at an ancient Egyptian tomb, and is showing her emaciated small bones and ribs, in your mind?

Yet, some following news related to the shocking negligent homicide, unfortunately, told us more egregious story. At an nearby PC-Room in which no restraint is put on using its computers with money, the deceased baby's parents were playing the online game named "Prius Online" when their daughter breathed her last in the agonies of death. At the dim, uncomfortable computer parlor, they had spilled into the fantasy world and been exploring mythical lands and enjoying swashbuckling adventure. Ironically, in the virtual world, they had been a great parents. With their mouse and keyboard, they raised their virtual sons and daughters called "Anima" and dedicated themselves to dress, feed on and cuddle them while their REAL daughter was left untouched. How sad and tragic it is that virtual daughter stole parents attention away from real daughter!

Gumgom : The Presidential Election Day! Part 4 (last) (4)

Above things are not orders you should obey no matter what happens to you. If the reason why you cast a for the specific candidate isn't just because he/she is your cup of tea and to your liking, that's okay. However, to make a more mature and developed democracy in our society, it is important to select candidate who reflects zeitgeist this period need better than others. Give your vote to somebody who you think will iron out problems in the Korean society. Someone may argue that there's no candidate they want to give their vote to so they don't want to take part in this democracy festivity. Whoever may say it, there's DEFINITELY no way that it is true as the fact that someone is a non-supporter of any candidate doesn't mean that giving up on voting is right thing to do. If you don't have any candidate who you want to support, instead of staying in home, make your body move toward a polling place and cast a blank ballot! By doing so, you will anyway have done what you should do.

Here are some of my opinions about the next president.
Whoever runner takes his/her next seat at the Blue House, whether Park Geun-hyea of the ruling Saenuri Party or Moon Jae-in of the Democratic United Party, the next president doesn't have to betray the voters who have supported him or her with great enthusiasm believing that he or she will be better than other candidates when it comes to playing a role of people's representative. It is undeniable fact that if the next president doesn't fill the need of people, the party he or she belongs to will lose its supporters and power, and will never win in the next general election.

Conclusion

The following sentence sums up my conclusion and is something that I hope all readers who have read my posting so far just to keep in mind.

"Sovereign power over Korea resides with its civilians and all the political powers politicians have also come from its civilians."

P.S
If your brother or sister are thinking that "Yahoo! It's just a legal holiday on which my sleeping isn't hampered by the noisy alarm going off early in the every morning. I don't need to get out of my cozy bed!", all you have to do is say this to your brother or sister. "Rise and shine, stupid! Giving your vote must be far more important than your stupid sleeping! lol
If your boyfriend or girlfriend tries to convince you to have a date with him or her instead of voting, threatening(?) him or her through this saying "That's it! I'll never meet you again if you don't go to the polls in order to vote!" would be a great idea. (Wait a second. By the way, are there any people who can give me one good reason why I don't have girlfriend who I can say above words to? T.T)
If your friend are busy carrying out his RPG game character's quest, say him "Before accomplishing your stupid 3D character's quest, fulfill faithfully your own quest in the real world!" and bring him into a place where voting is taken place!

Second, think about which candidate will be helpful to you. If you live a hardscrabble life, a candidate thinking of setting reforming welfare system a first priority would be right one whom you should cast a vote to. Not only the welfare, but lots of other things, for example economy, technology, education, gender equality, medical insurance and even policies on North Korea (either hostile or sympathetic to North Korea) should be considered before making a election-related decision. Remember this: The burden we will have to shoulder by a wrong political decision made by president will eventually fall on us ourselves.

Third, make sure not to judge candidates' pledges and rosy and lovely-sounding rhetoricals at face value but take who will eventually turn his/her promises into reality after being elected into your consideration with your keen insight. If you can't make head or tail of what they have said, more specifically their manifestos and election platforms, reading through the entire contents of the official gazette for election would be very helpful. Make sure to check which proposal is realistic or which one is a abstract thing and to draw key point of the proposal from their manifestos if you are at least able to do so. If you think one candidate's pledges are made only for the purpose of paying a court to voters, it would be advisable to take the candidate out from your list.

Lastly, do not give your support to candidate under the stupid idea that someone from specific region have to support specific candidate. Kick out the virulent regionalism and anathema to other regions' people, both of which have plagued the Korean society so far. Election is not a kind of confrontation of some regions (specifically the south-eastern part of the Korean Peninsula, Kyunsang Province, and the south-western, Jeolla Province)

Although no punishment will be imposed to anyone just not for voting, at least in my opinion, someone who give up on his right to vote has no right to complain about politics. Why? The reason I think is very simple: Casting ballots is not only a right of citizens, but a responsibility that they don't have to neglect. Putting aside the responsibility means you don't do thing as a member of our society. In other words, not using your entitled right to vote isn't right thing to do as the next president, whoever it is, will be elected directly by the ballots of civilians in Korea.

The only thing that politicians care about when it comes from citizens is the political showing of one's expression and that expression is nothing but a voting. It's the only civilians who can cast their votes and by doing so, make politicians' sugar-coated pledges while campaigning just to get more supports of voters turn into the actual promises that they will put into practice.

If you haven't decided yet who to vote for, I would like to give you just some tips. First, make sure not to be affected by unsubstantiated arguments. This presidential election, as other elections did, has been plagued by numerous negative movements. As the election race was turning into a neck-and-neck competition, negative election movements eventually rear their heads again even if Ahn Chul-soo, who dropped out of the election race in order to amalgamate his camp and Mr. Moon's camp into one camp and rally their supporters, urged politicians not to use slanderous remark targeting other side and make up a smear story which may make politically middle-of-the-road have a skepticism about politics. Do not make a rash judgement on any rumors of any candidates until the truth show us itself. Ignore any malignant comments over baseless allegations flying around cyber-world(internet) to slander specific candidate. And, it's just little something I hope you to bear in mind. Even if a candidate you like doesn't win in the election, don't make a malignant comment against candidate of other side.

Today is the Korea's presidential election day! I really hope any Korean reading this entry make sure to cast a vote for any candidate who they go for! Also, I would really appreciate it if any English-native friend correct any of my entries! Thank you and enjoy my entries!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to ask a quick question to you, if you are Korean. What special day is today? Just the typical 19th of December? Someone's very special day or anniversary? Well, it may be someone's very special birthday or even someone's tear-making sad day on which one of their family member's funerals service is going to be held. Whatever today is for each of you readers, there's one thing all of us have in common, which makes today a very special day. It's the Presidential Election Day!

Needless to say, it's the day to go to the polls, no matter who you are, whether you are one of the so-called 'extremely conservative dumbasses(수구꼴통, a group of people whose inclination is extremely conservative) on Ilbe(일베) or on the Politic and Society Gallery of DC inside or that of the left-wing red-commie zombies(좌좀빨갱이, a group of people whose inclination is extremely progressive) on MLBpark or on Ruliweb (Both terms, extremely conservative dumbass and left-wing red-commie zombie are the terms used for the purpose of insulting those who have a different political inclination.) That's why the engine in my fingers started up and I am writing this English-written posting about the election. (Though I'm not good at writing something in English.). Then, why today is a important day?

Before explaining the importance of today, I would like to ask you a very simple, but important question. What is the 1th and 2nd clause, 1th article of the Korean Constitution? Hopefully, you have answered the above question within a fraction of second. If you failed to answer to the question, that's okay because I'm going to let you know the answer. Have you ever heard of these sayings by any chance?

"Korea is a democratic republic.(대한민국은 민주공화국이다.)"
"Sovereign power over Korea resides with its civilians and all the political powers politicians have also come from its civilians.(대한민국의 주권은 국민에게 있고, 모든 권력은 국민으로부터 나온다.)"

What I want to say in this context is that you have to cast a vote for a candidate whom you have been supporting. As we know, the run-up to the presidential election was just over, which means candidates will face off over the result of the election very soon. All of the candidates, in unison, stressed the importance of voting, by saying that "all of you fellow citizens' small movement can make bigger changes to politics! Please! Exercise your right to vote!"

Gumgom : I really need a high TOEFL IBT score... (7)

The most obvious thing ever is that I'm... I'm definitely a stupid idiot. Why hasn't I prepared for the TOEFL IBT before....? I should have done that.... ㅠㅠ

It turns out I gotta get at least a total TOEFL IBT score of 80 in order to apply to the exchange student program administered in my university.

The problem I have is that I've never studied the ETS-administered English exam so far and I'm not sure if I'll get a high enough score to surpass other students' one.

It seems that at least 95 score should be equipped with me when putting in an application form to the university's international schoolwork division.

ㅠㅠ

I think I have to tightly put my nose to the grindstone during the upcoming winter vacation.

Actually, I don't worry about the "Reading Part" and the "Listening Part" because both are kind of easy compared with rest of ones.

I...frankly... am not confident about "Speaking Part" and "Writing Part" because these parts aren't something I can master overnight.

Would memorizing dozens of example answers and model essays be helpful.....?

Needless to say, the higher the score I have, the bigger the chance is. I wish I can get a score 100..................

Gumgom : A Little Mobile Gadget Friend: Smartphone - Part 3 (4)

Eventually, one day, I had an epiphany. Definitely, I was addicted to the small device. It gave me an opportunity to get into "cyber communication world" but at the same time cut me off "real communication world." I shouldn't be more becoming isolated from real relationship. So I immediately ask myself some questions about what role the smartphone are able to play. Could the smartphone do everything for me? No, it couldn't. Would its built-in 10GB memory card set me up with nice-looking girl on a blind date? No, it won't. Does it, from my pockets, be able to take its seat at the romantic bistro and kiss me on my mouth as if it is my sweetheart? No, It doesn't. I realized that I was dominated by the smartphone to the point where I had resorted to it as if it were my security blanket. After then, I felt I really need to cut down on the use of smartphone.

I had tried to make a commitment to myself to shut it off for a certain amount of time each day, and finally I got control of myself when it comes to it, the smartphone.

Changes that smartphones that have promted in our lives are fairly amazing. With the changes, most places all over the world have interwoven each other with little barriers of time and space. The world is turing into the too-much-information world. However, the belief of "the more information we have, the better" isn't anymore true because as it already turns out, information glut causes information overload and as a result, leaves us frazzled and makes us miss out on a great deal of small, but useful information. So is true when it comes from smartphone. We can swim in the "sea of information" and find any information we want just by turning our smartphone on and clicking on an icon. However, without realizing it, we are getting ourself captured by smartphones and let them dominate our minds. The newly-coined portmanteau word "Nomophobia" tells us a lot much more than in the literal meaning of itself.

It's time to need to pull down the barriers we have set up against real conversation. Smartphone won't go away. Although outright dangers associated with smartphone addiction pale in comparison with that of other type of addictions, and is hard to pin down, I believe that sometimes, it would be worth enough to live without it.

I'm going to give you one question. Is your smartphone nearby to the distance you can reach just by stretching your arms out? If you aren't sure whether you can't go a single hour without it or not, SHUT that OFF for a few hours and prove yourself you can do it even without it! Instead of getting in on your cyber conversation, talk to your friends and family in the real world!

Gumgom : A Little Mobile Gadget Friend: Smartphone - Part 2 (4)

If you have one or more than one smartphone in your pocket, you won't deny that your life is revolving around them. How would you live if you don't have them anymore? What if all smartphones in the world suddenly disappear just for no reason? Just imagine: Live your rest of your life without smartphone!

A few years ago, before I got drafted in the Korean Army, there had been no such thing as a smartphone in Korea. In those days of non-smartphone, no one would see the day on which we are able to search for near restaurants, gas-filling service stations, and hospital and communicate with other people around the world by just logging on to SNS such as Facebook, Twitter, and Cyworld. Those things were believed to exist only in exciting science-fiction movies or cyberthriller. However, as time has passed, since Apple launched its iPhone on 28th November in Korea (The launching of first iPhone in Korea was later than that of other countries.), smartphone has been existing everywhere. I couldn't exactly describe how surprised I was when I first saw the numerous useful functions of it, and how convenient having it is. I was all but gasped as people could use online-banking service through the palm-sized gadget, magically! Some audacious soldiers used their smartphones in secret at our barracks, not caring about the risk of imprisonment. Needless to say more about it, no sooner had I finished my military service than I got me prepared to meet a new charming friend: Smartphone! My fellow comrades, who finally put an end to their terrible military service on the same day, were also primed to enter the world of smartphone. I and they bought it right after we were discharged from the military. Surely enough, doing lots of things just by wiping my fingers across its screen was amazing experience indeed.

However, a few months later, I realized that I was extremely absorbed in the small mobile device. It was almost like an addiction. I have might checked it countless times a day, almost at least 200-300 times a day, just in order to check whether I got new messages from my friends or not. However many times I checked it, one thing very clear is that I must have developed this habit of scrambling for my smartphone at any time for no proper reason before I knew it. When Apps didn't properly work out, I usually got irritated and moved my fingers angrily over its screen while throwing a tantrum and letting swear words out of my mouth.
