Well, English is studied in almost every school around the world and if that is not enough there’s a big business related to the matter. The curious thing is that English is not something necessarily linked to the countries to the countries where they come from and their cultures. For example, you study Japanese or Korean to approach to Japanese or Korean stuff. English itself works more as a sort of global transactional intermediary or at least you use it to consume Hollywood movies and that kind of things, not to mention the people just learn it in order to work in The United States.
I find English written articles in the Wikipedia more rich than those in my own language (Spanish) in general (not regional) topics. I feel too that there’s more available and less restricted information on the Net in English. So I not only want to take advantage of that but also backwards... vice-versa?... by learning to generate content in English so I can have a wider audience (I’m one of those attention thirsty bloggers that are left on the Blogsphere :P haha!)

The interesting thing is that English is not something necessarily linked to the countries to the countries where they come from and their cultures. I'm not sure what "they" refers to.

I find English written articles in the Wikipedia to be more detailed than those in my own language (Spanish) in general (not regional) topics.

Also, what part of Colombia are you from? I live in Medellín and used to live in Bogotá :)
