I have a quick question regarding the use of ato de/mae ni (after and before).
I know how to use it for nouns, eg: 会議の後で... (after the meeting...)
but how do I use it with verbs? is there a rule? so far I have been doing it like this:
着くことの後で... (after we arrived...)
食べることの前に (before we ate...)
but I'm not sure if this is right?

"after we ate" is 「食べた後に」
ですよ。
「ことの」は付けないんです。
"before we ate" なら 「食べる前に」
になります。
need to translate the verbs with past tense.
着くことの後で...着いた後で is more natural as 着いた is past expression.
食べることの前に (before we ate...)食べる前に is more common use. ことis not needed in this case,
着くことのいた後で...
食べることの前に (before we ate...)It meaning might "before we eat"if you want to say "ate" we say "食べた"but we don't say "食べた前に" so we say "食べる前に" (before eating)
起きる前に/食べる前に/出掛ける前に/学校に着く前に
お昼ご飯を食べた後で/学校が終わった後にorで/家に帰った後で etc
I haven't tought about the rule of after or before with verbs, but It the best way if you want to say『食べることの前に』
you should leave out "ことの"
just say "verb + 前に"
『着くことの後で』
It as the same as『食べることの前に』but we usually don't say『着く後で』
It should be understood, but we usually say『着いた後で』That means "after arrived"
so you should say "after" with past tence!!
and also don't use"ことの"
