"読んでいます" = "has read" or "is reading"? I want to say "has read"....
"読んでいます" = "is reading"
"（もう）読んでいます/読みました" = "has read"
"I have read 2 chapters" = "もう２つの章を読んでいます/読みました"
"I have read only 2 chapters" = "２つの章しか読んでいません"
"I read (past tense) 2 chapters yesterday." = 昨日２つの章を読みました
"I have already read 2 chapters." = もう２つの章を読んでいます

I have one more suggestion.
"I have already read 2 chapters." = 「もう２つの章を読んでいます」 is correct, but when you say this sentense, we usually add one more sentense like 「だから内容はだいたいわかります」
I am going to write full of sentense.「私はもう２つの章をよんでいます（ので/だから）内容はだいたいわかります」= "I have already read 2 chapters, so I have known the story."
If you would like to say only the sentense "I have already read 2 chapters.", you could translate「私はもう２つの章を読みました」
My English is poor, so I worry it make sense.

=「私はもう２つの章を読んでいます（ので/だから）内容はわかります」
=「私はもう２つの章を読みました（ので/だから）内容はわかります」
