Hajime Crea : 英語で！英語の文法を理解しましょう！3: Is/Are (10)

この日記は、日本語で書かないで、簡単な英語で書きます。
英語学習者のために書きました。
お楽しみ下さい！
———
Welcome to the third entry in the series!

Today, I'll quickly explain the correct use of "is" and "are".

"Is" can only be used if you are talking about only one thing.
For example; "There is a book on the table."

"Are" however, can only be used if you talking about something in the plural sense.

So, you can't say "There is some books on the table."

You should say "There are some books on the table."

I hope this helps, even just a little.

I wonder if the last entry was simple enough for everyone to understand.
If you don't understand what is written, please don't be afraid to ask me.

Also, I may not be able to answer all your questions, but I'll try my very best to.

I hope you enjoyed this entry!

———
助言、質問があったら、質問してください。

Thank you for reading, and good luck!

Hajime Crea : 英語で！英語の文法を理解しましょう！2: A/An (8)

この日記は、日本語で書かないで、簡単な英語で書く。この日記は英語学習者のために書きました。
お楽しみ下さい！
———

Welcome to the second entry in this series!
I hope you will find this one as interesting as the last one.

Anyway, today I will try to explain the use of "a" and "an". I will also explain the difference between them.

One thing I notice about Japanese people when they speak or write English is that they often forget to use "a" or "an" in a sentence.
This may be because in Japanese, there is no such thing as "a" or "an".
Sometimes they will use "a" or "an", but they may use it incorrectly.

As a general rule, you always use "a" or "an" before a noun.
For example, if you want to say 「きのう、本を買いました。」in English, you would say: "I bought A book yesterday."

The difference between "a" and "an", is that "an" is ONLY used for words that start with a vowel.
For example, you wouldn't say "a apple", you say "AN apple".

Thanks for listening!

ーーー
助言、質問があったら、質問してください。
Thank you for reading, and good luck!

Hajime Crea : 英語で！英語の文法を分かりましょう！1: Its/It's (2)

この日記は、日本語で書かないで、簡単な英語で書く。この日記は英語学者のためです。
楽しみ下さい！
———

Today, I will try to explain the difference between "its" and "it's"

"It's" is actually a shortened version of "It is". Therefore, you only use it when you want to say "It is ....", but in a casual style.
For example, if you wanted to say "It is cold today!" You can use "it's".
e.g "It's cold today!"

You only use "its" when you are talking in the possessive tense.
For example: "The cat is playing with its kittens."
As a general rule, if you change "its" with "his" or "hers", and the sentence still makes sense, then you have use it in the proper way.

I hope this helps, even just a little.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Thank you for reading, and good luck!

Hajime Crea :

Right now I am studying Japanese.
But if I had the chance to study other languages, there are quite a few I would choose.

Firstly, I'd like to learn Greek. I'm not very good at Greek, and because my grandparents are Greek and I want to be able to speak with them, I would like to improve my ability to speak Greek.

Also, I would like to learn Korean because I think that Korean culture is interesting. Apparently, Korean grammar and Japanese grammar are similar, so it would be easier for me to learn Korean.

I want to learn French, German and Spanish as well because you can use those languages in lots of different countries.

Recently, I've been watching a TV drama called "Kaseifu no Mita" (Mita the Housekeeper).
Have you heard of it? Apparently, it's a very popular drama.

The main character of the show is Akari Mita. She is a brilliant housekeeper, but she is strange.
She seems to not have any emotions. Also, it seems that she cannot smile.
Mita works at the Asuda Family's home.
At first, the family finds her strange, but gradually they come to like her.

Because Mita is very mysterious, I want to watch more of this show. I want to know more about her.

Maybe some other time I'll write about the other dramas I like to watch.
I might even write some more about Kaseifu no Mita.
