I was (riding) on the bus for return home last night.
This is the simplest alternative, I think. If the destination were anywhere but "home", you would need the preposition "to"-- for example, "I was on the bus to school." However, "home" is usually not preceded by a preposition when it is your own home you are talking about, so "the bus home" is correct. Since "home" is the destination, the verb "return" is not necessary. The verb "riding" is also not necessary; that is what one is usually doing when one is on a bus.
I got stuck in traffic last night. [Alternative: It got stuck in traffic.]
There is no need to repeat "last night". Also, it is somewhat more natural to say that the bus got stuck in traffic than that you, personally, got stuck in traffic, since everyone else on the bus was also stuck. The pronoun "it" in the alternative sentence refers to "the bus home last night" mentioned in the previous sentence.
They (traffic jams) aren't fun, because everyone is tired.
I'm tired now, but I enjoyed my trip, so I'm happy.
There is no need to repeat "now".
I was on the bus home.
It got stuck in traffic.
They aren't fun, because everyone is tired.
I'm tired now, but I enjoyed my trip, so I'm happy.
