ルカです。イタリア人です。
六年の前にアメリカに来て去年までニューヨークに住んでいました。去年の秋からマサチューセッツ大学の研究者です。
一年間日本語を勉強しています。頑張っていますけれど日本語があまり上手ではありません。それから、毎週日本語で書くことを練習したいです。

Six years ago I arrived in US and I lived in NYC till last year. Since last fall I am a researcher at the University of Massachusetts.
I've been studying Japanese for one year. I am trying my best, but I'm not very good in Japanese. Because of that, I want to practice writing in Japanese every week.

a question: what's the difference between「が」and「けれど」?

I think けれど is very polite and It is used by elegant lady.(It' my opinion)
が is more natural in the journal.
If the journal is written politely, it' natural to use けれど.
Sorry for my obscure explainnation! I hoop you can understand the diffrence.
