Yesterday I finished reading a love novel- “ Do you like the United States”. This name is a question which a girl asks her boyfriend. The writer of this story is a Chinese young girl.
I have read a lot of love novels. Almost all of them have happy endings and after reading, I usually feel glad with the end. But this novel has a completely different ending from which I have hoped. And the novel make me think of it a lot.
The beginning of the novel, the principal girl is 18 years old, her name is Trinh Vy(TV). She has just passed an entrance examination of G university. The writer describes her as a cute, kind and very innocent girl. The boy who she falls in love with is studying at a Law university near G university. He is Lam Tinh(LT). That’s the reason why she tried her best to pass that university. He is her neighbour when she was a little girl. She holds him in a great affection for a long time, but she doesn’t know exactly if he loves her.
Some days after entering her university, she came to his university to see him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t there, he has just come to the United states to study aboard. When listening to that news, she cried very much and cried for a long time after that. She reproached him with leaving without telling her anything. She didn’t hear any news from him and she was hopeless. But she still missed him so much and she thought that she would never forget him.
One day, she had a argument with a strange boy student. He is 1 year older than her and his name is Hieu Chinh(HC). She completely thought that he was wrong but he didn’t think so. She seriously asked him an apology, but he didn’t do it. She is a stubborn and headstrong girl. So she determined on retaliating against him. After a long time she usually made him angry, she realized that she didn’t hate him as her thought. Conversely, she felt like him.
She wears her heart on her sleeve. So she determined on expressing her love to HC. Initially, HC hated her and he even didn’t want to see her face any minutes. But after that, by one way, she went into his heart and sometimes he missed her, he thought about her more and he realized that he liked her beauty and her character.
Their love was very nice, romantic and special. They became the greatest couple at their university. They gave to each other innocent and natural feelings. She knew that HC is the man who she truly loves. LT was like her idol, she admired him but she would never catch up with him. So she gave her whole love for her man- Hieu Chinh. She often imaged their future- a sweet future.
God usually doesn’t give to people something they wish, and God didn’t give to Trinh Vy a permanent love. Maybe God didn’t take her love away. The United States deprived her love again. One more time, the man she loves would went aboard to make his dream, his family’s dream. Because of her, he used to decide not going and he wanted to stay by her side. But his love couldn’t win his parent’s hope on him. Actually, he loved her very much, but he wasn’t confident to bring a bright future to her. So he had to go away to be a successful man. And he hoped when he returns, she won’t be another’s wife, she still loves him and they will be a happy husband and wife.
Finally, he went away and Trinh Vy stayed there alone with too much love memories. Hieu Chinh wasn’t confident enough to give her a promise. She suffered the most terrible time in her life. She believed that she would never love another man. He hurted her heart and she would never forgive him for that.

this novel is very long. i tried to summarize it as short as possible. but my summary still has two parts. i will be very happy if you can read all of it. thank you so much

But this novel hasd a completely different ending from which I have hoped. than what I had hoped for.("From which I have hoped" may be correct, but 'than what I had hoped for' I think sounds better?)

Initially, HC hated her and he even didn’t never wanted to see her face again at any minutes moment.*(*This sentence correction was more about what sounds more natural to say than mistakes. Although there were some mistakes, I mostly edited this sentence to sound more natural sounding,...at least in my opinion)
But after that, by one way she eventually went into stole his heart. Sometimes he would missed her, he thoughtink more about her more, and he realized that he liked her beauty and as well as her character.

They became the greatest* couple at their university.(*maybe 'happiest' would work better?)

One more time Once more, the man she lovesd would went travel abroard to make his dream, his family’s dream. complete his family's dream.*(*is it just his family's dream, or does he share this dream as well?)
Because of her, he was used to decideing not going to go and because he wanted to stay by her side.(Because of her, he was used to not going anywhere because he wanted to stay by her side.. Is that what you mean?) or maybe (Because of her, he decided not to travel abroad because he wanted to stay by her side...I think this is what you meant?)
But his love couldn’t win overturn his parent’s hope dream on for him.
Actually, even though he loved her very much, but he wasn’t confident that he would give her a bright future to her.
So he had to go away to become a successful (business) man.
And he hoped that when he returned, she won’t wouldn't be another’s man's wife, and that she would still loves him and they will would be a happy husband and wife. couple.
Finally, he went away and Trinh Vy stayed there alone with too much memories of love memories.
Hieu Chinh wasn’t confident enough to give her a promise.
She suffered the most terrible terribly during this time in of her life.
She believed that she would never love another man.
He hurted her heart and she would never forgive him for that.

What a tragic fate this girl has: both the men she loved went to America! The second man at least has good intentions ^^
1.I suppose haha. You can say 'I would rather wash the car than take out the trash.' You don't have to use more. You like happy endings, so when it didn't have one, it was different than what you thought previously...I know it didn't explain it well, sorry :/
2. Well, I have NEVER heard the word 'principal' used for the main character in a book haha. But I do hear 'main' :b
3.Oohh. Sorry, I was getting confused by the verb tenses, and the rest of your sentence. I would say 'So, she determined that she would retaliate against him!'..I think haha. Sorry, that was my fault again. It was..very late at night.. (my excuse haha).
4. I guess saying 'Sometimes he missed her' is right. Maybe I was wrong! sorry :/ I still think it sounds okay, but, perhaps its incorrect. It probably is :/
I actually got confused by the verb tenses too, because I think it was getting switched around a bit haha. I don't know all the verb tenses in english (what they're called) but it would be in the past tense I would think, since you are explaining what happened. You went from 'he had hoped' to 'he hoped' which would mean slightly different things, I guess according to time. When I explain a summary, I just use regular past tense 'he hoped'. But I try to correct sentences by the sentences alone so I don't confuse myself, so I just left the 'had hoped' and 'hoped'. You know what I mean? Although I do think that I changed your present tense to past..

2.well, if you were saying that they had the argument at the school, then yes, you would say at school. but, I read it as 'she had an argument with the strange boy (from her school)', so that's why I wrote 'from school'. ^^
3.Ohhh I think I know what you meant now. haha, yeah, like to catch up with someone. I guess it makes sense in that sentence, but maybe.. 'but she never wanted to catch up with him' ? even though it is correct in the sentence, it doesn't sound very..i guess natural to me? haha, well, I think 'but she never wanted to talk to him again' perhaps sounds better. Whenever I hear 'catch up', it's used from two old friends or acquaintances that want to talk a bit (Do you want to get some coffee? Let's catch up!). or, after suddenly seeing an old friend of yours, and talking right then, they say afterwards 'well, it was nice to catch up with you!'
4. Hmm, I was thinking about whether to change it to entire or leave it as whole when I was correcting it, and 'whole' does work with the sentence. Entire using to emphasize the bad? hmm..i never thought of it like that. I don't think it is only used to emphasize how bad something is. Entire/whole seems to be a bit interchangeable to me, when i'm thinking of sentences in my head haha.
5. Well, I was thinking of sentences, and I came up with this difference:
'I gave her it'
'I gave it to her'
I think it's just preference. Or maybe to emphasize. 'where is the gift?!!??!' 'I GAVE IT TO HER (now leave me alonee)'. hahah
or, I guess you could say 'i GAVE her ittt -___-'
However, 'God doesn't usually give wishes to people' doesn't really work. I think mostly because you don't really give wishes, but you grant them. 'God doesn't usually grant wishes to people'. Actually I have a new correction. haha 'God doesn't usually give people *what* they wish for'. 'something' doesn't really sound right. Sorry for not noticing that before :/
Also, when saying 'I gave to people' ..it should be 'I gave it to the people'. So I think that was another conflict in your sentence haha.
But 'God doesn't usually give to the people what they wish for'..Just sounds weird to me. 'God doesn't usually give people what they wish for'...better. haha
Again, I think you can use 'to', in sentences like
'I gave the pineapple TO her'
but,
'I gave HER the pineapple'.
see the difference? The placement of her and pineapple. haha I'm pretty sure for the most part it will stay flexible like this, but who knows :b
