sever takes the accusative in most cases, except for stuff like this:
elma severim
armut severim
ağaç severim.
But it takes the accusative when you use them like this (actions and plural nouns):
elmaları severim
armut yemeyi severim
ağaçları severim
agaç dikmeyi severim etc.
Ayşe Amerikan yemeklerine bağımlı oldu ve 9 kilo aldı.
We don't usually use Amerikalı unless we refer to a person and even then it is rarely used.
Çığlıklar o kadar yüksekti ki başım ağrıdı.

By reading that comment you might get the wrong impression that singular nouns do not get the accusative ending with the verb sever. Only generic names do not get the accusative ending.
When we say "Elma severim", it means I like apples.
When we say (O/kırmızı/etc) Elmayı severim, it means I like this or that specific apple.
