When I was a high school student, I would often take a coffee break while studying for a university entrance exam. At the time, I had an assortment of chocolates, and I very often enjoyed some of them. In the box, there was a variety of chocolates, and it was kind of fun for me to choose which one I would have. It's been a long time since I had such experience, and now I recalled it for some reason.

I often experience deja vu, but truthfully, there are a lot of analogous things in our life. I realized that assortment of chocolates is like our life experience. There are some reasons why I think this way. The most significant thing is that we have only one chance to “really experience” each of them through our whole life. Even if we have a similar chance, it will have a less impact than the first one. That's because we're mostly impressed by things that we haven’t experienced before. I guess these are especially significant when it comes to the first romantic relationship, the first food you have, or the first moment you achieve something.

In regard to this kind of topic, there are good news and bad news. The bad news is that people often say you should experience as many things as you can, but this is not always right. I heard a psychiatrist told in her book that she often got visits from those who seemingly lived a problem-free life, but said they didn’t want live anymore. According to them, they’ve already experienced significant events like social success, marriage, and childbearing, so their life would gradually decline even if they lived longer. This is like a situation where they had no chocolates to have because they ate up everything. In Japan, celebrities are sometimes arrested by drug use, and I guess this is because they feel something similar.

And, the good news is that “no experience” is often regarded as a bad thing, but if you look at it in a different way, it’s just lucky. Because you still have an assortment of chocolates you can enjoy having. The thing is how you want to treat with those chocolates.
