Third, after I will take a doctorate, I want to work in various places in the world.
Forth, in my old age, I would like to run a private school in the country.
Lastly, my dream is to die of natural causes.
And I have to say; my dreams include the living with cats and a dog, growing some plants in my field near my house!

"various" is uncommon; "different" is more commonly used. different == various == a variety of

It has to do with trying to choose more natural collocations...

I don't understand. "collocation" is "verb + preposition", but 'different' is an adjective. Or, are you making a general statement about your writing? Also, collocation requires more than one word. I have always thought that the difference between 'various' and 'different' is simply a question of usage frequency.

Maybe I should have said usage frequency. To the best of my understanding not all collocations are verb + preposition. I think the word collocation is sometimes used broadly?
