I attended my cousin's wedding yesterday. The bride was my cousin and the groom was an Australian. Needless to say there ware lots of English speakers at the ceremony. Although, relatives of bride who can speak English are exclusively minorities in our family tree in the ratio of roughly one to twenty on the other hand, groom's relatives can't understand Japanese at all. During the solemn ceremony in a historical shrine, Togo-Jinja. As you might imagine, there never was a chance for both side of relatives to have a conversation. Maybe there was but seemed no one had a courage to try to have a conversation.
