A sentence I read from a book. "Conceal a knot as you would a secret."
At my first time to read this sentence, I didn't know what it means. I didn't know "would" can be used as "save" or "hide". But when I realize the word "would" means "hide" in this sentence, I really feel "wow" . Words can be so complicating and interesting.

(Here is) A sentence (that) I read in a book.
Because you are about to share a sentence from a book you can say "Here is". This sounds more natural. You could also write:
I read this sentence in a book, "Conceal a knot as you would a secret".
At first, I didn't know what it meant.
Because you already said that you read the sentence in a book, you don't need to say that you are reading. But if you do want to say that you read the sentence you could write:
The first time I read this sentence, I didn't know what it meant.
I didn't know that "would" can be used like "save" or "hide".
You could also write:
I didn't know that "would" could mean "save" or "hide".
But when I realized that the word "would" meant "hide" in this sentence, I felt really amazed.
When you say "wow", you are feeling amazed.
The verb "to conceal" is similar to the verb "to hide". However, they can be slightly different because "to conceal" usually means "to carefully hide". Here are some examples of sentences where they mean the same thing:
1) I am concealing my identity.
I am hiding my identity.
3) The documents are stored in a hidden file cabinet.
The documents are stored in a concealed file cabinet.
Overall the verb,"to hide" is much more commonly used.
I hope my comments are helpful and if you have any questions feel free to ask me anything.
Thanks for telling me the different way to express idea I want to say. And thank you for the explanation of the word "conceal". ^-^

But when I realized the word "would" means "hide" in this sentence, I really felt "wow" .
Words can be so complicated and interesting.
"Conceal a knot as you would (conceal) a secret."
We don't need "conceal" twice in the sentence because it's repetitive and doesn't offer something we don't already know. "as you would" means "the same way you would" so we know that what we should do to a knot is what we do to a secret: conceal it.
Hold the expensive vase as carefully as you would (hold) a baby.
Don't drive on a city street as fast as you would (drive) on the Autobahn.
Run across the room quickly as you would (run) over a bed of hot coals.
Now I know "would" does not mean "hide". Thank you for telling me the rules how and why native English speaker say it this way. @^-^@ Thank you. It is really helpful.
